Was wondering if anyone knows how the cutting power is with the supplied pad with the 7424xp. What product should be used with it?

Thanks,

Matt

From what I understand the pad that comes with 7424XP is worthless-although I guess you could put a MF bonnet over it and use it to remove wax/sealant. You need to get a 5" backing plate and some low profile, flat 5.5" pads. HD, Lake Country and Buff & Shine all have excellent pads. I went with B&S as they have a recessed Velcro -- supposedly a little safer so you don't damage protruding structures like mirrors, roof racks etc.

I bought a 6 inch backing plate and 6.5 inch pads. Is that cool too? They are in the mail. I was planning on also eventually buying a 3.5inch backing plate to use with 4 inch pads. It is the XP btw.

Perhaps others will chime in here as I have no direct experience with the 7424XP, but everything I've read says you should use 5.5" pads with a 5" backing plate to get maximum benefits from your polisher--especially the 7424XP as it doesn't have enough power to keep the 6.5" pads rotating like more powerful ROs like the Groits. I purchased the Groits because of it's power and lifetime warranty--it came with a 6" backing plate, but I bought a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads. In my limited experiece they are much easier to control, rotate better and less expensive.

My Autogeek kit came with a 5" backing plate, but 6.5" LC pads. I'm going to switch to the 6" backing plate and 6.5" pads in the near future.

I don't understand why AG would sell a kit with pads improperly sized for the backing plate provided!! Why don't you just ask them to replace the pads with 5.5" pads??
