Sunglasses: What is everyone wearing?

Now that summer is in full swing, almost everyone wears shades when they are outside; for many with sensitive eyes, it is an absolute must.



We all know the benefits of UV protection and, to a lesser extent, polarization.



What do you wear? For detailing? Driving? Just looking good?



I've got a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators and Carrera Winner 2/S for general use (depending on intensity of sunlight/what I'm wearing), and Persol 0649 for when I want to look sharp.
 
When detailing, cutting grass or yard work, I just have a $10 pair of crappy UV/Polarized sunglasses that I bought years ago. For work and driving, I have a pair of Maui Jims, but am looking at getting a pair of Oliver Peoples, but they are hard to find.
 
Persol 2931 when I'm wearing my contacts for three week periods; and I have Transitions lenses in all my regular eyeglasses.

I like those a lot, and was on the verge of purchasing them, due to their resemblance to the 0649 (and the fact that they cost half as much!), but upon trying them on, they were a bit too small looking for my (rather large) head. That is another thing, one can find a nice pair of sunglasses online, but trying them on prior to purchase is of the utmost importance. It can be surprisingly difficult to find a pair of shades that fit one's head "just right".
 
No polarized lenses for me, generally speaking, as I can't see the readouts in the Audis with 'em. Between that and the "hingeless frame" design, which I just didn't like, I've retired my Muai Jims.



I usually wear Tag Heuers, but also:



-Serenghetti Drivers, "spare-pair shades" for outings with the dogs where they might get abused

-Randolph Engineering, for general-purpose with conservative appearance, and when wearing helmets

-Zeiss, light duty eye protection and when I want lots of contrast

-Gargoyles (old, as in, 1980s old), for severe duty eye protection when I know they're gonna *really* get abused

Yep, got to try mine on before I bought. Got 'em at Saks Off Rack too, at below retail.

You're getting into some hazardous detailing, eh, Accum? :smile1:
 
I just picked up a pair of Solar Shields? They are polarized and fit over my rx. glasses. Few choices and then getting a good fit is hard. Having perscription glasses is a pain with sunglasses., I did have rx. sunglasses in the past but would go into a store with them and have to run back to the car to change since they were too dark.
 
Rudy Project Apache, polarized prescription. Bought them for cycling originally, wear them everywhere. I only wish the lenses were vented for riding.

I sympathize! One of the best things about my LASIK is that I no longer have to get RX shades. Other than Transitions for my "beater glasses", I usually had one pair of *dark* RX sunglasses, RX inserts for my Gargoyles, plus clip-ons that came with my Matsuda frames. I probably save enough on RX sunglasses to pay for the LASIK!
