Summer project.... "Operation OTC"

I have a lot of mail order products. So, this summer I wanted to try out a bunch of OTC products and hopefully find some good stuff that I can get easily. Here are my findings so far:

Meg's UPW - good stuff. Easy to apply and remove, looks very nice, and from past experience it can rival 845 I'm terms of durability.

Meg's UQW - always a favorite. Looks good, easy to use, nice on trim.

Meg's Gold Class Spray Wax - surprising. Looks great on darker colors. Easy to use and pretty slick.

Mothers back to black rinseless tire cleaner - very nice. Cleans well and the ease of use is great.

Auto zone green MF wash mitt - great for rinseless washes. Cheap.

Griots MF towels - pricey but advance auto coupons make them ok in terms of price. Plush and well made.

Viking MF towels - bought some plush drying towels. Almost cheap. Work well, soft.

Meg's UQD - always a favorite. Super slick.

Griots all in one sealant - fills and corrects decently. Fairly slick. Seems pretty durable as well. Might try topping it.

Meg's water magnet - a bit small but priced right. Liking them

Things I still wanna try:

Griots - speed shine, glass sealant, and spray wax

Meg's - ultimate polish

Turtle wax - tire coating. Not the spray version

I'm almost convinced I could go completely OTC and be very satisfied. I can get 105 and 205 locally. I can't get something like UWW for my rinseless or ez creme. However, maybe ultimate polish will sufice. Fact is, there are some good OTC products out there at good prices, and they perform well. Just thought you might enjoy this little experiment.

I thought I was making progress with the acronyms but then I read this post. :) Thanks for the synopses.

OneQuickGT1- Ah, a few of those on on my radar for if/when I run through my current inventory.

Interesting that the GG One-Step Sealant conceals well for you, I'd wondered how good it is in that regard.  A pal uses it but I suspect his car is too marred up for any concealing agents to make much of a difference.

I've used the Griot's SpeedShine for ages, but I only like it on waxes as opposed to sealants and it has a somewhat limited shelflife (though it still works pretty OK after it separates and "goes bad").  I've heard their Spray Wax can be finicky.

Don't ever forget DuraGloss products. Aquawax is legendary, as is 105 which can last a year.

DuraGloss is located right  down the road from me.      I agree --- 105 is an excellent OTC product with some incredible durability.    Reasonable price, too!.

Accumulator... I think it fills decently and lasts. I am waiting to hear from griots if I can layer their sealant over it. I heard their sealant is pretty darn good. Looks good and durable. I may even try layering some best of show over the one step after allowing it to cure.

Duragloss is good stuff. Just a bit of a drive for me to get it.

Stay tuned. I am most likely trying the turtle wax tire coat soon. Not the spray, but the gel type product.

OneQuickGT1- Eh, I'm not too impressed with the looks of their sealant (same pal that uses their one-step these days used to use it) and I utterly despise BOS.  I went through a *lot* of BOS until I finally woke up and realized that it's simply a crappy LSP in pretty much every regard.  OK, that's just IMO but I'm hard-pressed to think of another LSP that I dislike so much.

Well, at least avoid the BOS.  I don't have any first-hand experience with the sealant and if it layers OK over their one-step it might be worth checking out.

Thanks for the reviews onequick, you say Megs UQW is good on trim? Do you mean it does not stain it or it works as a protectant?

Trim-friendly LSPs (and coatings) are a lot better than dressings...at least for situations where you can go that route (sometimes things are so compromised that you just gotta go with a dressing).

dschribs, the NAPA store near me carries a lot of DG products and will order the ones they don't have.  Usually next day pickup.
