Suggestions for my list?

I want to order a new polisher this weekend. The $30 rotary from HF worked great on a camper I did this weekend...but that was gelcoat and I could be as rough as I wanted on it with little consequence (full speed w/twisted wool pads and nice results type of rough :/).

Basically I'm looking for valuable opinions on things I could change to cut the cost of my purchase or change products out to improve it without raising the price...basically I want more bang for my buck...And what I have picked out is already over what my budget should be...but I digress.

Anyways, here's my list of things I'd like to order from autogeek:

1. GG 6" RO 129.99

2. DA Hook & Loop Flexible backing plate 5" 17.99

3. Lake Country Hydro tech 5.5x1.25 pads 3 pack Buy one get one free 29.99

Shipping: 21.99

And a 32. oz. bottle of HD Uno for 29.99+15.40 shipping

a Grand total of right around $250

For the pads I would like to get 2 of each color (Crimson, tangerine, cyan) But it doesn't give me cyan as a choice, not sure why as the pads are the same price as the other 2 and it doesn't say they are out of stock or anything like that.

Does this sound like a pretty good package I've put together? I'm open to suggestions, especially when it comes to value! thanks!

You might want to take a look at one of our sponsor's websites above (Detailers Domian). They have a great GG package that includes the 5" BP and Uber Pads which are the same as Buff & Shine pads--both are great pads. http://www.detailersdomain.com/Griots-Garage-6-inch-Random-Orbital-Polisher-Base-Kit_p_683.html Also, keep in mind a 16 oz bottle of UNO is enough to do 6-9 cars so you could save a few bucks there unless you have allot of cars to do. For pads you could start with 2-4 Orange, 2-4 green and a black for each LSP you plan to use. Generally more pads of each color is better.

I'll look into that a little later when I have more time

As long as their prices are comparable I'd love to order from a site sponsor to support the site.

I think the Uber pads are also the same as the new 3D pads. It would be a good idea to start out with 4 orange, 3 green and 2 black. You still have to clean them on the fly (especially the orange) with a towel and or nylon brush (I use a denture brush I got at the Dollar Store) after every couple of sections. And change them to a clean pad periodically. With more pads you don't have to stop your work to wash them and then wait for them to dry.

You can use a cleaning solution if you like, I've never tried them. I read somewhere years ago about using Dawn Power Clean or Power Spray, something to that effect, and it works perfectly as cleaning pads. It's a small blue spray bottle found next to regular Dawn cleaning items in stores.

Dawn Power Clean is too thick--the Dawn Power Dissolver is the one you need--about $3.00 at Walmart--in the same aisle as regular Dawn, but not with it--you have to look a little--small blue bottle as RZJZA8o mentioned. Make sure you rinse them well after washing. To dry I put a thick, folded over once old bath towel on the floor, lay the pads on the towel (foam down) fold the towel over the pads then step on them. Really drys them well, but I let them air dry overnight just to make sure.

yeah Dawn Power Dissolver is what I meant, small blue bottles. Stock up if you find them somewhere, it's hard to come by for me.

I had the same problem then found them at Walmart in the same aisle as the regular Dawn, but way down at the end of the aisle. Also, found it at some ACE Hardwares, but it was $5 a bottle.

looks like I won't be able to order the polisher and everyhing this weekend with bills and all, unless I pick up a job for tomorrow or Sunday, but it's somewhat doubtful.

May just have to get some practice in with my rotary and Megs Softbuff 2.0 cutting pad and finishing pad. Better than nothing I suppose.

If you're not in a rush, just be patient and watch Amazon.com the GG6 goes on sale for $80 every now and then. Have to watch for it and act quickly as they usually sell out in a few hours.

My rotary runs at ke 200 rpm on its lowest setting though so its not too unsafe for the time being I guess. Would just like to see better results.

If I had the money I'd pick it up right away, sadly, I dont

.

On the positive side I got my truck to finish with no swirls and a near perfect finish with ultimate compound.
