Subaru BRZ Opti-Coated, plus a BMW 535

2013 Subaru BRZ. This one was in great shape other than a small nick and a touch of paint missing on the edge of the passenger door. Owner already had the proper touch-up paint on hand, was able to make quick work of those two very minor defects. The paint itself was swirl free, a welcome change from the two Scion FR-S I have Opti-Coated recently. It was just a tick under 100 so it was right at the upper limit of safe application temperatures for applying the Coating. The owner had kept the car in the garage during the day and had two fans going in the garage too which helped keep the paint cool enough that Opti-Coat didn't flash off and cure too quickly.

Whatever has been tweaked in the formula for Opti-Coat vs the first tubes of Opti-Guard I was getting a couple years ago has really bumped up the wetness and depth noticeably. Every person whose vehicle I have applied it to this year has commented on how terrific the coating looks. :)

2009 BMW 535. Regular customer, been taking care of his cars since June of 1994. He recently picked up this 535, for now he is more concerned with protection than perfection. Paint was pretty good anyway.

His driveway isn't very large and with my car and his X6 in the driveway and the extreme angle the car was pulled into the garage, I wasn't about to try and pull it out for pics... ;)

Fabulous work as always Scott. Why did you use an Optimum microfiber polishing pad to finish the BRZ, but a MF cutting pad to finish the BMW? I have Meg's MF pads and always end up using a foam pad for the final finish. I use Menz FP2, or HD polish. Never saw a MF pad finish so LSR.

Thanks!

The microfiber on the Optimum pads is the same but the foam backing is more firm on the cutting pad. BMW paint (with the exception of jet black) is harder than Subaru paint so the Optimum MF cutting pad finishes very well on it.

Nice work! I'm actually going to be opti-coating a BRZ this Friday. Haven't inspected the paint yet though since the customer is an hour and half from me. Assuming it has some defects from the dealer.

Scott,

Do you apply Opti-coat to glass, headlight, wheel and plastic trim? Or just the paint?

Paint, headlights, hard plastic trim and wheels. Normally don't do glass unless requested. So far all my Opti-Coat customers have been very interested in using ONR to maintain their vehicles and that gives the glass a nice Rain-X effect as it is.

Except at least something that will need extra polishing. Also tape off the trim even with a DA, it is very sensitive to polishes.
