Stupid wash and wax package.

I hate doing "wash and wax" packages.

You know, just washing and waxing.

Today was a perfect example of why. I got an absolutely ridiculously swirled and rough BLACK ford zx2 escort in. I washed with Zymol soap (which is my go-to soap) and i waxed with my best one step for swirled cars, NXT. The car was still ridiculously rough, and still swirled to hell and back.

I really really hate one step packages. What do you tell people when the car you did for them got better, but... well... still isn't good?

I apologized, explained what it would take to do a perfect finish and then told him that he could have 20$ off of a full detail (the cost of the wash and wax) if he wanted to.

Should i feel guilty that people don't take care of their cars?

Don't beat outself up over peoples lack of concerns for there own cars. However you need ot tell them before you start the work what they should expect from what they are asking to do. If I so a car that I know is in bad shape then I tell the customer that its going to need more work not the one step that they are asking and I have gone as far as to say no thanks!

One other thing.
Many of those people have no idea as to how good their vehicle could look and the job you did may have been satisfactory in his/her eyes.
I have a friend whose wife drives a Honda Odyssey van that I wish he would let me detail just once, (for free), so he could see how good it could look. It gets the drive-thru wash/wax and he thinks it looks OK.

You may want to look into Meg's #66, it's a good one-step product. It's not going to magically hide all swirls, but i think it will yield better results.

I do not detail for a living but I DO NOT DO WASH AND WAX ONLY details. Minimum package includes polish and clay. I can't stand waxing a turd either.....:ranton

Well - for some people, clean is all they really want. Don't apologize for it. Clean it, wax it with Lemon Pledge if you want, leave a mint and a brochure on the dash listing surfaces like swirl removal, gloss enhancing polish, stain removal and pocket the bucks.

The other day a custormer came in and wanted a mini detail which is a wash wax and interior, no buffing. When he picked up the car he said that he though that the scratches on the trunk would come out. They told him that the only way to get out them scratches was to buff them out , and that he didnt want to pay for it. They told him before they started that the car needed to be buffed.
