Stupid Plumbing Question

I want to make washing my car in the winter a more pleasurable experience by not freezing my hands off. I don't have a hot water faucet outside. My question is this. Is there a way I can use some sort of adapter to attach a garden hose to the faucet in my utility sink on the inside of my house? The sink is in the mud room that has two doors so I wouldn't be letting any cold air inside by having the hose run out the door. If an adapter was available this seems to be the perfect solution. I would have a pistol nozzle on the other end so I wouldn't be wasting hot water.



P.S. I know the hot water on my washer water supply has a garden hose fitting but it is on the other side of the house way away from the driveway.
 
Wait a minute....you're in Louisiana, and you're complaining about cold hands in the winter?



I just use dishwashing gloves when I wash my car in the winter. It keeps my hands dry, which in turn keeps them warmer.
 
They do make an adapter for your situation. The best thing to do is to take the existing aerator off and take it to your plumbing supply store so you can match it up (this will save you a trip). It's about a 2-3 dollar part.

Believe it or not, it does get cold in Louisiana. Just last week it was 60 or so when I was washing my car. Brrrr....

Blanchard, huh? I'm 30 miles due east of Shreveport (worked for SPD for a few years). Like travisdecpn said, take your aerator to a plumbing supply place. There are a few on North Market (S'port) not too far from you.

You could also try an aquarium store. I had a set-up to fill tanks that had an adaptor for the sink, hose (available in different lenghts) and a shut off valve on the end. You would just have to put a male connector on it for a nozzle.
 
I think water bed use an attachment like that to fill them up. Check walmart in the back where thay sell water bed accessories.
 
60* is cold? Just yesterday it hit 38-39* here. I thought it was warm so I wanted to wash my cars. I couldnt because I didnt drain my hose and it was still frozzen, but still.....

60 is cold? :sosad I washed my car the other day in temps barely above freezing. I had to keep going in to get warm water to keep the water from freezing on the paint.

I'm surprised your utility sink doesn't already have threads on it. Most I looked at did. If all else fails, go to your favorite home improvement store and you can replace the whole faucet for around $10 (or a lot more, if you want to get really fancy). It's a really easy job too.



And by the way, at 60, I'd be out in shorts and a T-shirt. It's supposed to be above freezing this week so I'm thinking of calling in sick just so I can wash my car.... mental note, must get QEW soon.
 
Thanks guys. I found the thingy at a place you'd never guess-a store that specializes in birthing stuff. It is sold to fill a small swimming pool with warm water so that mothers can give birth underwater.

I looked for it at Home Depot and Lowes and neither one of them had it. They did have something that was close to what I wanted. They had a quick connect to hook up a portable dishwasher to a kitchen sink. I could have made this work but it would have looked bulkier. The thing I have looks very unobtrusive.



I tried it out today by giving the dog a bath outside and it worked very well. I plan to use it in the summer because hot water cleans better than cold.



It does get cold in north Louisiana. We get a very light dusting of snow almost every year and it frequently gets down in the 20's during the months of January and February.
