stupid noob question of the day on QD

There's a lot of talk of QD products and I guess it is second nature to most on this site. I've searched some on QD technique, but can't find exact answers to my questions. I'm a little concerned in using a QD and getting light scratches if the car is too dirty.

1) My assumption is that you can safely QD when dirt/dust is at a minimum, but what is a good rule of thumb among when you can/should QD or wash? Overnight garage dust? light dirt?

2) I also assume ONR would fall in the middle somewhere as usable on the dirtyness scale, right?

3) How often do you QD? every day between washes?

4) Why would you QD instead of ONR? - quicker and simpler?

5) Once these questions are answered - how does a noob choose between the dozens of QD'ers that you folk hype? - ok, I don't expect an answer to that one and my seach did give me plenty of choices and opinions - no need to repeat them here, but it is overwhelming.

Thanks all,

BW

Let me preface this by saying these answers to your questions are my personal opinion:

1) I will QD a light layer of dust (can't really assign a time frame, as tehre are too many environmental issues at play) - if there is actual dirt on the car, I wash instead of QD.

2) Not neccessarily - Scottwax has a thread showing a truck that he safely washed with ONR for several months (even when it was dirty), and it didn't cause any scratching/marring. Using the proper procedure and materials, many people believe you can wash a pretty dirty car with ONR. Obviously if there is caked on mud, you will want to spray that off before doing an ONR wash.

3) In my environment, I can safely QD every 2-3 days. But this will vary according to each person's environment.

4) If there is just a light layer of dust on the car, it is easier to just QD, plus you save the hassle of pulling out the buckets and supplies.

5) My advice would be to buy a couple, and just test them yourself.
