Street Dreams: Mini Cooper correction, wheel detail

I have only recently noticed this but the black weather strips that run from the windscreen to the rear window are begining to turn slightly gray, as are the rubber door seals.

I have tried several different products from Turtle Wax to Autoglym (which I normally use), they work for a week or two and start to turn gray.

Any ideas? Could it be time to replace them?

Gummi Phlege works best for me on soft seals. Get it at your local BMW dealer. Great stuff. Black Again will also "blacken" the seals.

You should treat rubber weather seals like you treat tires and protect them against UV damage. Remember weather seals need to last longer than tires since they wear out less.

I avoid the silicone types since they attract dirt and can get car occupants dirty when getting in and out.

Mini in for some correction work and full interior exterior detail plus wheel removal

Before prep, some etching on the hood, dried out trim etc.

Couple readings, and no I was not able to make a 3D model of this on my computer sent via bluetooth and then organize each individual reading on Excel spreadsheet .... but somehow I made out okay when polishing :cornut:

Some before shots of correction. Ended up with a 4 step process from start to finish, rotary around 2100 for compounding and finishing down around 1200.

Yes I know the yellow tape on red paint looks like a Ronald McDonald mobile

On the smaller areas with lots of edges I switched to the DA from the rotary so I could work with 1 hand clean

Wiped the car with alc/h20 and pulled it outside to check for correction before moving onto to the rest of the car

Always use the hood as my gauge for the rest of the correction, get that as good as possible and set the tune for the rest of the job.

Back inside for the rest

Little tarminator helped loosen up some tar, adhesives etc.

Looks awesome Dave!

I was hoping for the 3D model with paint thickness readings, but maybe next time... :out:

So was the paint hard? I have the identical car I will be working on in about a month or so.

What did you use for the paint correction and LSP? Maybe I missed it?

Top notch work as always!!!

Great work Daivd! LOL@ the 3D model!

I'm curious on the workability of the paint as well? My boss has been asking me about detailing his Mini for a few while now but I don't think he liked the price I quoted him! :p

Quote more than you think. I slated 20hrs for this car and ended up with 30 into it. The paint was harder than expected and the contours on the hood, headlight areas take a bit of time. Black roof needs some time to finish down properly. Even something like getting all the plastic moldings on this car dialed in takes a lot of time. I dont think that it was so much a difficult car to work on as much as I underestimated the job simply because it was a mini.

... oh but the interior cleans up easy if that helps :D

Thanks for the heads up David!

My boss has the convertible so I won't have to worry about the black top at least. ;)

He's just looking to sell the car and doesn't need a crazy correction job. I'm hoping I can get away with using Power Finish and calling it a day. ;)

Thanks again,
Rasky

I have no doubt it will come out like a champ, GL with it Rasky

Dave once again you've raised the bar! Alot of work in such a little package! How do like Rejex as far as durability? Does it last more than wax or are you applying at every wash on your DD? Does the wheel cleaner(P21S) pretty much strip it off?

You did it again Dave.

Your work keeps proving to be top notch. You make us fellow Jersey boys proud!:notworthy:
