I’ve been using my new Porter Cable 7424, the white foam polishing pad from CMA, and 3M Swirl Mark Remover on my new car with excellent results. However, there are a few swirls in the paint that this combination has been unable to completely remove. I’m thinking of giving 3M Finesse-It II Machine Polish a try, but I’m wondering…should I continue to use the white foam polishing pad to apply this product, or should I step up to the yellow cutting pad? I’m a big believer in using the least aggressive product to get the job done, so I’m hoping the white polishing pad with the FI2 will be adequate.

Of course, I'm also willing to give a few more passes with the white pad/SMR combo a try, too!

Use the Yellow pad with finesse it2, this combo does not make the compound, or the pad more aggressive. The pad is just more firm not more abrasive, it allows the abrasive in the compound to do it's job. Use the white pad and SMR to remove the micro hazeing that FI can make.

I use the yellow. It works really really well.

By the way, I didn't have enough to get a vette like yours, I'm only 19 so I got a 99 SS Camaro. It has the LS series block your engine has and 330 hp and 345 torque, almost side by side with the 98 vettes. Dumping almost 2k into a suspension so I can keep up with you on the curves.:bounce

Some shots of the defects, nothing serious at all. Some light marring and fine holograms all over the car. Nothing a mild polish wont fix. Its kinda nice not to have to go "open heart surgery" on a black car this week

Figure 8 holograms on the finish, they look sweet :thumb:

Correction consisted of Powerfinish on a white pad at 1800rpm down to 1200 for finishing

Picking up defects was very difficult on this color, a quick before and after of clarity difference after correction

The "BP" spill landed on these tires also, even after heavy cleaning during the wash stage further cleaning was needed again to strip old dressing fully before new tire dressing was put on..

 Another good job by Street Dreams. It's getting to the point that I read up to see if David is going to miss something.

All kidding aside, nice work. And I still cringe when I see the he holograms on the nice cars. :scared:

:White Horse:

Beautiful work as always David. I don't know, it's still a little strange to see a 3rd and 4th door on a Porsche (minus the Cayenne)!
