Strange customer request (boat)

Goof Off Rocks!
So I got this call from some guys secretary who is looking for a detailer to only wash and wax her boss's 29ft speed boat. No brightwork, interior, or anything else. She told me it was a new boat, only in the water once for 5 days or so. It will soon be relocated to its new home at Lake Powel, Utah.

So here's the strange request. She says the owner wants it to be washed with a solution of vinergar and water 50/50 mix, then only a marine wax to be used. No prob on the marine wax but what's up with the solution mix? Anybody have any idea why this is being requested?

Maybe the owner is just a freak. If it's that new, I'd say all it needs is a plain old wash and a good coating of a heavy wax like the ones in marine waxes.

I took the job so whatever, I'll spray some vinegar solution on and powerwash it down then wax it up. I'm doing it on thursday and will get pictures posted prob friday evening. But what's the deal, anybody know?

wonder if the owner's manual suggested that? I am also wondering what the durability difference would be between a sealant like EX vs. Meg's Boat wax?
 
Got to see how EX stands up to salt water compared to a product meant for boating? I don't know. I don't do boats except for friends... especially after one almost broke my nose...
 
Wear some kind of face mask becuase the smell of vinegar can really get to you. It goes deep into your sinus and explodes! I sometimes use vinegar on water spots and a very small amount really makes your sinus feel like crap, so just get one of those masks that covers your nose and mouth and you should be good to go. Good luck!
 
Vinegar and water removes salt water spots. You might be scrubbing instead of using the power washer.....bring an old wash mit :wait

Was the boat in salt water??
Sounds like this is more than a simple wash and wax.
 
I'm not sure if it was in salt water. I'm about as far from an ocean as you can be in the U.S. so probably not. Again, it's a brand new boat, was only in the water once for 5 days. I can't imagine any type of deposits or anything that would have built up on it so soon.

Maybe it's like Nick0844 said and its a recomendation in the owners manual. I just can't see what the purpose of it is. The only other thing I can think of is it has some type of coating on it that is put on after its built for storing and shipping. I'm doing it tomarrow and will take some pictures to post.
 
The solution is to get rid of water spots (very easily i might add). You do have to wash that off afterwards. Depending on the water, boats can get some naaaasty waterspots.
 
I know about water spots, I live on Long Island, I'm surrounded by stinking salt water...

But I've had a boat for years and after a fresh water wash after pulling it out is the trick.
never had to wash it with a 50/50 solution?
Fading is the major problem here.

Would like to know who the manufacturer is.
 
There are hundreds of uses for vinegar. i use it as a glass cleaner, mixed with water.Also mixed with water , it cleans the corrosion from the guides and reel seats on fishing rods and reels. If i can find the website , it lists all of the uses.
 
Get pics of the boat when you do it, im into powerboats, and we have a 27ft Formula Fastech, so defiantely get some pics.
 
Seeing that this thread is about 1 1/2 years old, I don't think you'll be getting pictures of this boat... especially when the user has been inactive for 8 months. Maybe a new thread with the topic of boats may get better results.
 
we mainly detail boats and wat5er spotting is a big problem depending on what lake it came from in our area, some lakes that are man made reservoirs such and possum kingdom lake that was once and old rock quarry the mineral deposits on the boats from that lake are terrible, so i can understand the vinegar wash
