Sticky doors

Hello, people

I have a problem in that the weatherstripping/seals on my doors will stick to the painted metal on my car, thus resulting in a door that is hard to open. I already cleaned the rubber with Meguiar's #40 and the painted part with (I forgot) but the door still sticks occasionally. Any suggestions as to what the problem is? BTW, once I get the door open it doesn't stick anymore for at least a few hours.

You can use Silicone, as it doesn’t have Dimethyl (petroleum distillates) added.

Silicones with Poly Dimethyl Siloxane (PDS) are water based, amino functional silicone that doesn’t migrate (dry out) the platicizers from materials, has less UV radiation absorption and dust attraction properties.

Rubber Seals:

The seals on most vehicles are no longer made of natural rubber; vehicle manufacturers use a specialized synthetic material called ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM). Real rubber, or blends containing real rubber, just cannot endure the direct exposure to sunlight (ultraviolet light) and the harmful-to-rubber oxidizing gases in our atmosphere.

To quote from the engineering specs, EPDM is "Ideal for outdoor applications because of its excellent resistance to ultraviolet light, ozone, oxidants, and severe weather conditions" EPDM does have a downside, it’s ability to resist tearing and sticking is marginal. And just like real rubber, it has extremely poor resistance to solvents (petroleum distillates) and oils; any chemical product that contains oils or petroleum distillates is incompatible with EPDM.
