I just got a 2004 grand prix and the steering wheel has some painted parts on it that are scratched all the to the plastic and was wondering if anyone knew how to remove the steering wheel so I could paint it. Thanks

You could check a Chiltons or a Hayes manual, but I would recomend that you be very carefull to follow the directions for de-energizing you airbag, you could get real hurt if it deploys while you are trying to remove it.

Good luck and be carefull

Yeah I think this is just spelling for something to happen. I would definitely disconnet the battery no matter what if your going to try to remove it. There has to be a lot of wiring if you have on wheel controls, the air bag, and horn stuff. Plus if you get it off and either can't get it back on or don't tighten it you will have some major issues.

On a brighter note, I'm sure body shops do it all of the time so it isn't impossible. I would just make sure you know exactly what you are doing so you don't mess it up. Also if you do do it, take your time in the prep stages of the painting so it'll last and not look like crap cuz I'm sure you won't want to paint it again later on down the road.

Factory service manual, that's where you'd find the info. You're probably going to need a steering wheel puller, they're not cheap. You'd probably be better off trying to fix everything with the wheel mounted.

seen it done at the shop many times. try to do the repairs with the wheel on, otherwise you need to disconnect the battery and need a wheel puller.
