Is steam cleaning the exterior of the car safe for the paint? Is it the next enviro-friendly trend?

I've seen several companies selling steam car washes. What is you opinion on this?

It depends on how hot it is whether or not it could damage anything. I'd assume steam cleaning would produce more marring than a no rinse wash because you'd still have to wipe it down.

what he said ^

but if you did a steam clean on the exterior, you could steam clean most of the grime away until it looks like clear water rolling off, and then come back with a waterless wash or no rinse wash with good results i bet.
