Stattlich has a new Home...Mine!

After going for a year and a half with one car, my wife and I decided it would be best if we went back to two. SO I set myself a budget and landed a doozy. Of course, I couldn't get just any car, I needed something with style, something with clean lines, and something that reminded me of one of my favorite cars from my past. I ended up with a cleanly modified 2003 B5.5 VW Passat.

I knew my wife loved black and I swore I would never buy another car that color. I told her black is like a monkey at the zoo, they're fun and cute, but you don't want to take it home with you. Too much trouble. However, seeing as though she didn't really have a say in which car we bought and I knew this car was everything I was looking for...we pulled the trigger. This car was also one I had known over the years from being an active forum member, so I knew what I was getting. When I saw the FS Feeler up, I knew it was only time until I put in my bid. I've been thinking about getting another car for nearly a year, but never really found one I loved. My monkey should be here by friday. :woot2: Stattlich has a new home.

Now my work really begins. Black will undoubtedly need work regardless of how much zaino was used. Also, I've ordered a handful of parts to make it "my" "Tailored Signature Experience" Vehicle. Amidst my booked detailing calendar, I welcome the new experience!

Below is the link for pics of my old Passat. Stay tuned for the new ones...

Delivery on Saturday! Yes! Gonna try and get my client done over night....catch a few winks and get to detailing the new rig.

Ha! I forgot I posted this. Thanks guys!

Well the car never showed up on Saturday and by Sunday my patience was wearing thin. Lo, 30 minutes before leaving for Church, the transporter called saying he could drop it off whenever...I asked the Lord for a pardon and told I'm ready now.

He arrived 30 minutes later.

I was pumped. Howver, as much as I had promised my wife I wasn't going to work on it at all that day, I got right to work on it. It's hard to tell from the general pictures I took, but after being transported openly from Texas over 5 days....it was a far cry from that shiny Passat you see in the earlier pics. IN FACT, after washing it for 4 hours!!!! I found out that the shade was working in favor of the car in those early pics. It had never been polished out, the shuts were a mess, the engine had never been touched, the seals were dry and the interior was, well, used by a family.

Luckily, I had time, the mechanicals of the car were sound, and it had been everything I had been looking for....AND I only paid 7K.

Literally the car was so dirty that when we got in it to drive it around, my wife asked me to drop her off because it was making her sick. We could barely see out of the windows.

Unfortunately, as much as I should have documented the whole process I didn't.

I logged 36 hours over the next week bringing it back to life.

Wash and Dry (4 hours)- Body with CG Citrus Wash and Foam Gun. Wheels with PB SPray and Rinse.

Engine Detail- Surf City RTGD, Swissvax Brushes, EZ Detail Mini, mucho MF's, and Black WOW/PB Natural to dress Plastics and Seals. KAIO under bonnet and on bay.

Paint- Menzerna SIP via Purple Wool Pad at 1700 on my Hot-atachi. Menzerna Intensive Polish via Orange Pad @1400. Menzerna FPII via Light Cut Green Pad @ 1100. Menzerna P106FF Via Black Pad t 900. Between every step I did a Z6 wipedown. I finished it up with Zaino Z5ZFX (3x)+ Z8 + Sourveran.

Chrome- Wolfgang MetalWerks System

Tires- WG Tire Gel

All Black Trim- Black Wow (on wiper arms too).

Seals and Rubber "boots" in Shuts- Gummi Pfledge. Later I cleansed with Leatherique Pristine and restored all with Leatherique Black Trim Restorer.

Wheels were also waxed with OSW.

Headlights- Removed them and polished them with Micromesh 1200 though 12,000 followed by 3inch white pad and Megs 205

Interior

Vacuum with my Metro. Shampoo all carpet with TOL Rug restore. Cleansed leather and vinyl with TOL APC (10:1 and 5:1). Also used TOL APC on headliner. Refinished Leather steering wheel using 1800 grit micromesh, deglazer, black leather dye, and high gloss top coat. Dressed vinyl with OPT Leather Protectant and nourished Leather with Pinnacle Leather Lotion.

Used KAIO on all shuts.

Replacement Items

There were a series of items that were below my standards or were broken so I replaced them. Here are the items I installed after the detail:

Replaced the right mirror lens motor, Replaced both Fog Lights, New W8 Overhead Console, W8 INterior Beltline Trim, all new interior door pulls, 2 New Coat Hangers, Replaced tint with Lumar 35%, Chrome trim Euro Light Switch Chrome Trimmed Master Window/Lock Switch, Monster Mats, Evolution Thor Skidplate, S4 Mirror Housings, Blue/Apherical/Heated Mirror Lenses, and R8 oil & coolant caps, and finally Chrome Passat Limo trim for bottom of deck lid. I think there might be more but I can't remember.

All in all I love the car. It' s been on the road now for about a month and it runs awesome while turing lots of heads. In fact, I was offered 10k from the guy down the street for it when I finished it. So anyway, here's some pics. The first set in the driveway were taken after about 20 hours, the second set at the park were taken after about 30...I don't have any completely done, just because I've been too busy. Things like the steering wheel and coolant/oil caps, chrome trim switches, and hangers weren't done yet.

Engine Done- Paint in Bay and under Bonnet Polished

Ha1 Well when I thnk back to what I had to get rid of this past year and a half to pay for my wedding, I felt like I had just received a new lambo (07 kitted GTI with Pakg2, Bell&Ross Br-01, Two Carbon Racing Bikes, a bunch of memorablia, and down to 1 car---eeesh..plus we were saving like mad).

Thank man!

Nice ride David! Car looks awesome. I almost just recently bought a silver W8 Passat.. I bought a lincoln ls instead. car looks awesome man!

Thanks man! The W8 is a nice one, but the engine parts are a bugger to pay for. Which Lincoln did you get?

Funny thing was that when the car arrived, I was overbooked on details and I ended up having to jockey some around to make time for the Passat. At one point I told my wife, screw it...I'm calling Barry to do this thing. But, I then leveled myself out and got into it. The only part I hate about buying a car is that signing on the line means I now have less money and (due to my restorative passion) less time. That is also the part I love most. :2thumbs:

! -- L--O--V--E-- ! the Phaeton wheels!!! They look great on that thing. Sweet ride! Skoda parts? Who uses Skoda parts lol! I forget, are they owned by VW?

Anyway, that's a superb looking car now that you've worked with it.

Thank you! I really like them. Tough finding back ups thought but I found them. Yeah, Skoda is owned by VW (one of their 9). A lot of the Skoda stuff fits direct...just something different :xyxthumbs Thanks again man! I've finally got the first thousand of my own miles on it and I really like it.
