This is hard to explain but... The black pieces between the front and rear windows of most cars..... Mine looks like it has staining from vinyl conditioner, water etc. I have tried everything, clay, compound, solvents, mineral spirits, any type of wax, and nothing makes 1 bit of difference. my friend spilled a drip of wax on his, let it dry, and nothing would take it off...

anyone know what im talking about and how it will look solid black again?

Also, my old aluminum rims are faded, after a wash they look whitish with streaks from water, etc. The only thing making them look good is some meguiars tire gel (i know its bad but, nothing else works!) I tried everything on them...maybe that napa aluminum wheel brightner would totally rejuveanate them?

these seem to be 2 problems i cannot solve.... I need some expert advice!

Let me take a shot.

I was preparing my car for the car show, and the plastic shroud in front of the windshield just didn't do it - gray, spotty, dull (the piece where the windshield wipers come through and there's an air intake). Tried 303, minimal success. Used Lane's Super Blue Tire Gloss and it perked right up in one coat. After that, also used it on all of the other exterior vinyls and rubbers, including the vinyl strip outside the side windows, bumpers, mudflaps, vinyl graphics, trim pieces, etc. Still holding up good a week later, after a couple of rains. Imagine any tire gloss would work, but I do prefer Lane's.

awesome, im gonna try some right now... but i think its metal! it seems like it is permanetly stained with vinyl conditioner or water...

I know what you mean, to be honest I have never found anything that would fix it permenantly. Some tire gloss helps short term, I think the damage to a family car I have was caused by someone polishing the piece while it was to hot or by excessive polishing.

Hope you find the answer for your problem

If you're talking about the "B" pillars (between the front door and rear door glass) how about getting new black adhesive vinyl from a sign shop? My '97 Maxima comes from the factory with black vinyl applied there, and it gets dull/oxidized and scratched with age. Some Maxima owners peel theirs off; the B pillars on our cars are painted/cleared underneath (excess adhesive is removed with Goo Gone). I've thought about it, and still haven't decided if I'll do it. But I have priced the vinyl to replace it incase I don't like it removed. It'll cost about $10.00 for enough of the new adhesive black vinyl to redo all of mine. Any graphics/sign shop should carry it. Even if yours are just plastic, you should be able to apply vinyl overtop and it'll look like new. And you could get a custom color if you like.

lol I guess there is no solution. i just tried eraser, peanut butter, mothers clay, on my friends car special with dried spots of wax.... to absolutely no avail. thanks for the suggestions though!
