SSR2.5 not enough?

Or what am I doing wrong? I have used probably almost an eighth of the bottle of 2.5 and I am not even done with the hood. I am using a yellow Propel pad with PC on about 3.5 - 4.5, working 2x2 area, and applying some light pressure. These are my results so far, but it is painfully slow. It is a 95 GMC Sierra.

Any suggestions out there. I am starting to think I need SSR3 or rotary because there are still scratches and swirls that may just be beyond the reach of the PC. I guess I expected the PC to be a miracle cure, but this paint is 10 years old and original on a truck that worked on a farm prior to me owning it. :( I'm happy with the side of the hood that is done, but should I be seeing these results faster and with less product, or is this probably about right for the condition of the paint. Surface is relatively free of oxidation, was recently clayed, and is washed on a regular basis.
 
I would suggest you bump that speed on up to 5, maybe even 6. Make sure the product is breaking down fully and you should be more than fine.



More than likely, if 2.5 isn't getting the job done, it's your problem not the product or the PC. Increase the speed and work it in longer, that's my advice.

EDIT: Upon second look, I might consider stepping down to SSR 1. I can;t really tell, but it look like you've removed most of the swirls and are left with micromarring.
 
you want to apply the ssr 2.5 at first on a 2 speed setting until the point right before its going to start dusting and then speed up to about a 5. me and my brother did his car last week with 2 pc's and only used 1/8 of the bottle on the whole car. you might be applying it too thickly and not working it in well enough. remember not to let it dust up, also you could try stepping up to a propel orange pad might help. We used 2 propel greens on the whole car. apply the product in a x shape on the pad and blot in a 2X2 or slightly bigger area like you were saying. sometimes you have to go over an area several times, then step down to a lighter cutting pad. i would say your results looks pretty excellent, huge improvement. i dont think you need to step up to the ssr 3.
 
I have had the same problem as I am currently working on my jeep. It is taking a long time and I have used a lot of product. I feel however that the greatest improvement came when I bumped up the speed to 6 and applied a generous amount of pressure and moved very slowly. Give the product time to break down. Very frustrating at first but certainly has been working for me!

JJ - The before picture represents what I am trying to get rid of with the SSR2.5. I decided to experiment today, and stepped down to a green pad and SSR1 to see if maybe I was being too aggressive. Well, that combo did nothing to address the swirls. I have bumped the PC to 5 a couple of times to see if that helped any, but it didn't seem to. I am moving the PC probably one inch per second or even slower to work the product in. I am then working it until it just begins to dust up or haze up as the bottle instructs.



Also, would #80 be more aggressive than 2.5?
 
No, the #80 is pretty equal to SSR 1. The #83 is similar to SSR 2.5. I think you may need to try another pass or two with the PC. A pass being apply product on the pad and work the 2x2 section slowly going over the same spot several times. Give it a good workout and couple times and then see your progress.



Maybe someone with more experience using the PC can help, but I had this same problem and it worked for me.

If that's the case, I would continue with the 2.5. You are definitely making improvements. I hesitate to recommend a more aggressive pad, although I don't think it would casue a problem. How many passes have you made? If more than three passes, I would move to a more aggressive pad on the next panel, but be warned, you might end-up needing another pass with a less aggressive pad. It's a real PITA until you get the hang of it. After you figure it out, 2.5 will impress the hell out uv' ya! Don't be discouraged, It looks great!

Too many people are going too agressive!!! Try different technique approaches before using a more agressive product or pad. 2.5 with a yellow pad is pretty agressive. Try different speeds, less product, more product, more pressure, lighter pressure, work it longer, work a smaller area, Etc.
 
Yeah, I will keep experimenting. I'm not ready to get any more aggressive just yet since I am eventually getting where I want to be with this combo. I think maybe I am using too much product and it is clogging up the pores of the pad. Is that a possibility?
 
Definitely a possibility! Give it a whirl, but I would recommend you clean the pad real well first.

Since I only have 1 yellow pad can I blast it out with the hose as I move along to rid it of the product stuck in the pores, and then give it a spin dry? Or am I showing my ignorance by even suggesting that procedure?
 
Although I've never done that procedure, I've heard of people washing it out --> spin dry --> Squeeze pad inbetween MF towels (sit on it or something... dunno)



That should get most of the water out though.

let it soak in dawn/water mix for a while then wash it out in the sink by hand with dawn or woolite and wash really well until the water coming out is clear.
