SSR2.5 and 1 and AIO results...What did I do wrong?

Well, I was doing my truck today with the intention of removing my swirl marks that have accumulated over the last five years (it is a 2000). I started with a Green Sonus pad and SSR1.0 and did a 2x2 section of my hood twice. It helped but not all of the swirls. So I took my Orange Cutting pad and put the SSR2.5 on there. I did my entire hood, in 6 different sections, then did it all over with the Green Pad and SSR1 and then finished it all up with the Blue Sonus pad and AIO. I let the SSR's work until they dusted. Well here are the pics. The hood looks much better but still not everything. Should I expect not to get everything the first shot or do any of you have any suggestions??? Thanks

Here is what I had to start with.

Here is after the SSR2.5 and the SSR1. Looking a little better

Here is after the AIO. Getting Closer.

And then this is after #26. Maybe it is just the angle but I think it actually looks worse than after just AIO.

try working the SSR'S on speed 6 and in all different directions i.e(><+*X-l) that usually helps. What did you apply the AIO with?

the SSR2.5 should have taken care of those swirls. Not sure what's going on since you worked the polish till it dried. you might have to go to SSR3.0 if the suggestion in the above post doesn't remove them

Could you go over it twice with SSR 2.5 instead of just once? Would that have helped? Go something like:

SSR1

SSR2.5

SSR2.5

SSR1

AIO

#26

Seems like a lot of work, but its really just one more added step.

Crank your PC up to max speed when using the SSR 2.5. Also, put some significant pressure on the head of the PC when polishing. SSR 2.5 should easily remove defects like that. Don't be afraid to get aggressive.

I wasn't really applying too much pressure. I would let the weight of the PC itself give the pressure. I think I am still a little tenative to go too aggressive.

I worked all the products at speed 5. I should crank the 2.5 up to 6 and then do the SSR1 and AIO at 5?

I applied the AIO with the PC at 5 with the Blue Sonus finishing/finest pad.

Don't be afraid to apply a little pressure. I would apply abrasive polishes at 5-6 and the AIO at 4-5.

BTW, the finest Sonus pad is the gray bad, not the blue. :)

Your signature is repulsive.

Same thing happened with me when using Sonus SFX Polishes for the first time. I would go over with the SSR 2.5, but go the opposite direction, so if you went left to right go up and down. Set the speed higher that helped me. I had it set at 4 with little pressure and I went to 6 till haze. Well when I had the same problem as you I started at 6 till dry. I would again go back over with SSR1 same direction. Then again over with AIO. It will go away. Practice.

A couple of weeks ago I had a car with such bad oxidation I had to go over with Merzerna polish twice that normally got everything out. I popped out the SFX polishes and they where gone. I looked real good because a big time detailer shop couldn't get it out, but my friends refered her to me.

Please tell us what you did to get that out. Just for learning purposes.

Doesnt it make more sense instead of pushing the PC hard, which will make some people tired after a whole car, to just step up to SSR3 and let the products do the work?

this is an example of why i am selling my PC (which is in the "good deals" forum if anyone is interested. sometimes the PC just doesn't tackle some of the nasty swirls. i would definately use the PC on 6 with 2.5. good luck.

You really gotta lean on the machine until it starts bogging down. All those marks should've been gone after ssr2.5... I mean, if after working it with 2.5 and you still have swirlmarks left, why would ssr1 do any better? The fact that you still saw swirls after 2.5 means that you have to be more aggressive. A successful polishing would have left a light haze without swirls. SSR1 would then get rid of this residual haze.

Well, I am still relatively new to the whole thing. I only did my hood today. I got frustrated after the hood so I just hit the rest of the truck with AIO and #26.

I'll give it another go around next weekend and try to do the entire truck hopefully. Hopefully I too will have a swirl free vehicle soon.

The PC is definitely capable of removing those swirls. I have removed worse using a PC and an aggressive pad/polish combo.

I just re-read my post and I just saw that it might've been insulting or condescending. It wasn't meant that way at all; i was trying to give the rationale to back up what i was saying. :)

best of luck on your next attempt!
