SSR1 with P21S or SG (is AIO needed?)

I was finally able to put some advice from this forum to use recently and will be posting some pics soon. I used a PC for the first time and think I'll do even better on my other car sometime in the next few weeks.

I find the learning curve here to be far greater than I would have expected, but with all of the terrific support it's rewarding, and fun. This is addictive!

Sorry for rambling, my question: SSR1 polish gives such good results that I'm think about going directly to SG (on one car) and P21S (on the other car) skipping AIO. I'm using SSR1 following SSR2 in this case.

I seems to me AIO is great paint prep for cars with a few years on them, but the SG instructions say to use it by itself on newer cars/paint surfaces (if I recall correctly). That's what the results from SSR1 looked like to me.

My cars are red and black, FYI.

Has anyone noticed a difference or had any problem with this approach? While I enjoy doing the work and getting the results, it seems like AIO in this case might be wasted time.

I'm looking forward to the feedback.

I would definately use the AIO between the SSR1 and the SG just because it sets up an ideal base for the SG to get maximum durability by removing any oils the SSR1 may leave behind.

Thanks for the replys. This is going in a different direction than I expected. I seem to get a great shine with the SSR1, which doesn't leave any oils or silicones behind. Since SG says it can be applied directly to a "like new" or good surface (in the instructions that come with it), it seems to me AIO isn't needed at all.

From what I can tell the SSR1 results are more impressive with a deeper glossier look than AIO. This led me to believe is was slightly more agressive using an abrasive rather than chemicals.

It seemed that when redoing a car that's already in pretty good shape, hitting it with AIO to clean and leave a fresh surface for with a sealant or carnuaba would be the thing to do.

Am I off base on this? Isn't AIO pretty tame at actually polishing, although an excellent cleaner that also provides protection?

Interesting. The only problem is that SG will not bond as well to the surface when oils are on the paint. You could do an alcohol wipedown prior to SG, but that would be contradictory, right?

If you insist on using SSR1 (nothing special, IMO), then I'd recommend a carnauba wax.

I'd still use the AIO. Even if the SSR1 doesnt leave any silicones or oils behind, you still run the risk of having contaminates that wont allow the SG to bond properly. To me, the real pro for Klasse is its awesome durability, why chance it when AIO is actually pretty easy to apply and remove?

I agree with what has been said so far. Use AIO. It will set up an ideal base for SG to bond to. Both products really do go hand in hand like z1 with z2/z5. If you really like SSR1 then just top it with a carnuba and skip the klasse.

Bill.

Thanks all! I was headed down the wrong path it seems. After using SSR2, then 1 I could see how much the SSR1 gave depth and shine, it really looked good.

If I used the AIO with a white pad on a PC would it have polished like that too? I assumed it wouldn't, is that where I went astray?
