SSr1 capabilities???

will ssr1 and a blue egde polishing pad take out light swirling? Will i need to do multiple applications and use the PC on a higher setting/apply more pressure? The swirls arent very deep but are very noticable to my eyes at least. Any tips on SSR1 from you guys would be great! thanx!

I found it works well for removing light swirl marks and water spots without producing any haze. I used a LC polishing pad but I can't imagine the two pads would be that much different. As for applying pressure, I've read in many posts that it is definitely not a good idea. Good stuff, smells awesome too.

does anyone else have experience with this product? It sounds like that i could do multiple applications with this if i need to remove a little mroe clear coat to level out those swirls. Is this accurate? id rather use something less extreme and work a bit harder with it.

In my experience SSR1 is very mild. Take that fwiw. It's a good polish to increase gloss, not remove visual swirls/scratches in my experience. IMO

I should add:
I used SSR2.5 with the Edge Polish pad
Then SSR1 with the finish pad.
Followed by EX by hand.
The 2.5,1 combo took out all med to low swirls very nicely.
And the finish was glossy and sealant ready.

Would SSR2 with a yellow pad be OK?

Yes, the SSR1 is extremely mild............ less aggressive than Meguiar's #9. You can make several passes to attempt to remove the swirls. Unless the swirls are very, very, very light, I would opt for SSR2, or SSR2.5.

Sveta: I haven't used SSR2.
Only 2.5 and 1.
If the yellow pad is the edge yellow medium cutting pad, I would not start with that pad.
Start with the polish pad (blue) or Light cut (green) at the most.
If those don't fix your problem, then consider a more aggressive pad/product combo.
Hope this helps.

Interesting. I was under the impression that ssr1 is comparable to #9.
Both are a 3 on the abrasive scale.

How do you know that? Steve doesn't have an abrasive scale on his products?

I don't know forsure, but going only by what others have said about this product in the past. I'll have to look when I get home, but I believe that I have a post which I copied a while back which said that #9 and ssr1 are very similar. The post was on detail city, but it's long gone now as I think it got erased when Dwane hit that button.

I also think that you yourself even told me that ssr1 and #9 are very comparable, but I could be wrong. This was about 6 months ago? I believe I private messaged you about some questions and this topic came up. I think I asked you which was more abrasive: meguiar's mppc or ssr1. You said the ssr1 was similar to #9, and that mppc was similar to Steve's pro-polish. Again, I might have the original message at home. Sometimes I save a copy of the message for future references.

ermanLS,

Sorry to get off track of your question. Again, the SSR1 is a light polish, similar to Meguiar's #9, but IMHO, slightly less aggresive. It may require several passes to remove even light swirls.

I find that SSR2 is slightly more aggressive than #9, and may be a better choice.

Obviously, SSR2.5 which is similar to DACP (with DACP possibly being slightly more aggressive IMHO) would be an even better choice to remove more stubborn swirls.

Of course, those are just my observations (right or wrong), based on actually using/comparing all those products.

Hope that helps.

thankyou very much for the advice. Ive dedcided to go with SSR 2.5 on a blue edge polishing pad and SSR1 on a finishing pad before applying ex-p on another finishing pad all topped with natty's. what do u think about the pad/product combos?

thanx again!

eric,

I think you've got a very good plan there, and you will be very pleased with the results if you work the polishes correctly! :bigups

I agree with Boss Eric, that's a great combo.
You will love the results.
What color is the car?

My car is black with a metallic flake.
When I used EX-P the flake just popped out like I had never seen before.
EX-P looks awesome on metallic paints.

my car, a 96 acura integra, is cypress green pearl. It actually just got a repaint about six months ago now and i think that combo should be able to take care of the light swirls. I worked the 2.5 with the polish pad that came with my pc but didnt have any luck with that but i doubt it creates enough friction/heat like the blue pad will.

ive heard ex-p is better on lighter colored cars from some and that its better on darker cars from others. its probably a matter of preference but i tought id bring it up to be an ass lol! thanx guys

Boss Eric (i kinda like that!)

There have been many threads on EX-P vs. EX on Light and Dark.
Do a search and you can find lot's of opinions.

I have used both on my black metallic.
I found EX-P to be more clear and reflective.
Like I said before, the metal flake really shows through.
EX gives a deeper more wet look, but not as reflective.
In fact on my 10 year old paint, I prefer EX because it also hides imperfections better.
That's a good thing on black because they show so much.

I am going to use EX-P on my wifes silver metallic.

Both will look awesome on your green, just different looks.
Try both and you decide what you like best.
