SSR Speed Questions, trouble with hazing

I'm using SSR2.5 w/a low profile orange pad and SSR1 with a white pad. After the 2.5 i'm getting a decent amount of hazing. Is it possible i'm using too much pressure with the 2.5 on the smaller pad? should I be going slower with less pressure?

Regarding SSR1, what speeds does everyone use with this? I had a little luck in removing about 50% of the hazing but there must be some tips that would help out.

Thanks!

My question would be are you working the SSR 2.5 long enough? It may be that the polish is not fully broken down. My experience with SSR 2.5 is that it will finish down very nicely, without much hazing.

slinky i have been having the same problem as you with the 2.5 and small 5" pads. with the 6.5 i finished down really nice, but with the 2.5 i leave *alot* of hazing.

I believe the polish breaks down faster and you end up dry buffing. i will experiment more but thats my hypothesis if you will.

Hmm, I just tried a little more. Once section didn't haze and the other got bad like the rest.

Kler, what you're saying makes sense, i'll give that a shot in a few. :)

Thanks guys!

The orange pad has a lot to do with the hazing... As would not letting the product break down enough. A white polishing pad with ample time should leave the finish LSP ready... I assume you're using speed 6?

2.5. I always use a polishing pad with SSR2.5 with great results. One thing I did notice is that if the product builds up on the pad, it may cause a little hazing. A quick fix to this is to brush it off or wipe off the excess with a terry towel.

yea maybe that could be the answer if your using smaller pads like the 5.25" ccs pads. maybe you should go down to a white pad because of the smaller size.

I dont know, i really feel like i was dry buffing the other day w/ the 2.5 and 5.25" ccs orange pad.

Let us know how it goes because i love the SSR line but im having trouble with it and these smaller pads, its causing too much hazing.

I'm thinking it might seriously cut down on micromarring and finish down LSP ready?

I dont know but it would be nice for those details with medium to light swirl removal.

Jim

2.5 and a 5" orange cutting pad, obviously your gonna get micro-marring.

You just need to step down to a polishing pad and a light finishing polish.

What do you mean by good results?

If it removes the deeper scratches but leaves micro-marring i would consider that good results.

No one can really answer that question anyways, all paints are different and will react different.

Well I'm the previous poster but if you call Steve at Poorboy's World, he will recomend using a white LC polishing pad to use with the SSR2.5... so that's about as good of a souce as possible :).

Here are two pictures of a Highlander that I did... SSR2.5 LC white topped with Wolfgang Sealant... no final polish:

Coupe, in response to your question, that's what I mean by good results. LSP ready. And those pictures that Budman posted have helped boost my confidence with trying out this process.

I will keep you all updated.

I wont be let down, but I enjoy experimenting. Today I was *shocked* at what prime strong was capable of with a white lc 5.5" pad. I cant even describe it, but it was a beautiful thing.
