Spray & Rinse Questions

JaredPointer

COME AT ME BRO
Since I am one who contributes to us talking a lot more about other things than detailing, I'll put up serious detail related question.

I bought some Spray & Rinse based on some reviews I had read at several places. My question is this - I can't make it work. I have tried using it by the directions (verbatim, mind you), full strength, on wet wheels, on dry wheels, on very dirty wheels and on slightly brake-dusty wheels, etc. For the life of me, I can't get it to work. I am still having to do a lot of brushing, even on the slightly dusty wheels.

So, detailing gurus, what exactly am I doing wrong. This is not a trick question.

I'm at a complete loss.

I just spray, let sit and rinse with stromg stream of water.

Works every time for me. It's made me very lazy. Only time I wash my wheels with sponge, brush or mitt is in winter.

Well you are using it full strength so that cant be the problem....

1) cool wheels
2) wet wheels
3) spray on liberally
4) let sit while you spray other rims
5) let sit some more in your case haha
6) than use a hard stream of water or pressure washer if you have it

sound like what your doing??

and thats "Brother Pockets" to you hahahahaha:pray:

Wish I could offer some words of wisdumb... but I haven't ever tried the product. Wait! Why should that stop me? :wall :rofl

OK that was just wrong of me...you were being serious and all. ;)

question would be , as Pockets stated , are you letting dwell for a couple minutes while you spray the other wheels? :notme:

well i could delete your post :chop

JP its in the dwell time, I spray mine on and let sit on a cool wet rims for up to 5 minutes if they are bad. I still have to use a brush to get some areas loosened up but that doesn't take much.

On some rims that I did over the summer there was some baked on stuff it was there that I learned that I was not letting it dwell long enough per the instructions of Steve

What wheels am I using it on? Clearcoated/painted aluminum wheels as best I can tell.

What dwell time am I using? The last time I was so intent on letting it sit, I sprayed it on and let it sit for at least 20 minutes. Long enough for me to rig up my hot water hook-up from inside the house after I decided it was too cold to use the outside spigot, fill a few 5 gallon buckets, and take the dog out to wee-wee.

I wondered if it was possible I got a bad or old batch. I ordered from AG, and there's a sticker on the bottle (I assume a mfg dat) of 040309 I believe. It does not have much of an odor.

Granted, my wheels have stayed pretty dirty this winter, what with the hunting and driving through mud and logging trails and such. However, after a good rinsing to knock off the loose stuff, they weren't any dirtier than some of the testimonial photos I have seen on the internet. Nowhere near as covered in brake dust as something like a BMW would be.

I'm at a loss. This is the only PB product I have ever had "not work."

?????????

Same date as on mine. BUT I havent used mine in a few weeks (ck to when i started complaining it was too cold to clean car) But it worked fine then.

And let me say that I am not expecting it to 100% completely clean the wheels of all brake dust. I expect to have to wipe or brush baked on dust.

hmmm ...maybe you are letting it sit too long ...2-5 minutes should be maximum ... that is a relatively new batch ... not supposed to have much of an odor and i do recommend not sniffing it  and using a hose would work much better than a bucket and mitt ... again never heard of anyone having this problem ..:hmmm:

Jared ... we actually had a warm(er) day today 48* so i sent Pockets outside to clean my Sequoia here are a few of a wheel ...

That's using a power washer as well, maybe JP is only using the regular hose, that can make a huge difference

true but you can already see from the picture of the soaking the dirt was breaking down ;) that was about 2-3 minutes ... truck hadn't been washed since September :notme:

I've got the exact same wheels on my Tundra, and it doesn't do that. :( I might give it another try Sunday and see what I can do. I just wish someone besides me had experienced this so maybe I could get an answer as to what I am doing wrong.

JP

In don't think you are doing anything wrong. I have used this product for years. I don't have a PW to spray off and really I think that's one of the keys to not having to use a brush,

My method is to wet the rim, spray on a liberal amount if they are real bad I use 100% but my everyday mix is 4 to 1. Let that dwell for 3 to 5 minutes while I do other things on the car, then use a brush with soapy water to agitated the areas and rinse. Most of the time all comes clean unless its in the back of the rim and that can take additional product and brushing

I figured that you had the same rims that is why we took pictures before we got started ...almost forgot
