Spot Buffs scratch removal on a black Mazda CX9 Soccer Mom edition

So my neighbor has an '08 CX9...and has a few kids, who supposedly put these scratches in her paint. I've done some work for her before, so she came to me to see if I could take her scratches out. I went over and took a look at them, and said I'd be back in 10 minutes. Grabbed some tools and my camera and got to work.

Her daughter just washed the car (yikes) so it was clean when I started.

Tools used:

Porter Cable 7424 w/ 4" Spot Buffs pads

1Z Intensive Paste w/yellow cutting pad

Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0 w/green polishing/finishing pad

Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0 w/gray finishing pad

All products were used on SPEED 6

Here are some scratches that were on her bumper:

All comments are welcome, thanks for looking!

Matt- Nice work, and :xyxthumbs for erring on the side of caution...some Mazdas have awfully thin paint (gee, guess how I know :o ).

Next time you might try the LC PFW pad instead of the yellow foam. It just seems *SO* much safer to me, while still being even *more* effective with the 1Z Pasta Intensiv.

Wonder if the CX9 is made here or in Japan (they quit importing the MPV and they're selling the CX9 in its place :grrr ).

Thanks! After seeing your results from Intesive Paste using smaller pads, I had to give it a shot on my beater Civic (even wetsanded some areas and it did a great job taking out 1500 grit scratches). This is definitely my new go-to combo for more serious defects.

I was going to try the PFW, but the few that I have were dirty...I need to stop being so lazy and wash them but sometimes it gets hard to keep up with cleaning so much stuff! I will definitely try them next. :waxing:

Great job Matt, you are a good neighbor! If you get a chance, try the 1Z with PFW on the rotary, that's my go to combo and I'm not exactly a rotary guru.
