Spindle lock question?

I was just wondering something. I got my Makita in the mail today and have been messing around with it, just getting familiar with its parts and things. I havent actually "used" it yet, just getting a feel for it.



My question is on the spindle lock. Am I supposed to be able to lock it anytime I push the button? It seems that I push the button then have to turn the spindle a little until the button goes all the way down and the spindle locks.



Not sure if this is how its supposed to be???

Push the button in and spin it either way until it locks in place. That's how you put on/take off your backing plate. Your buffer is totally fine.
