Spin Drying-Safe?

One thing that has bugged me for a bit since I'm still new to PCs and such is whether or not it's actually safe for both A) The Machine and B) The Pads to spin dry or run the machine without making surface contact. The PC manual (I actually read it :shocked) says in bold to not run the machine without touching a surface but I notice many people here spin dry their pads to shake off excess water.

I also noticed that some people commented that the velcro can seperate when dry spinning. Is this a common issue or more so on older pads?

This would be great if someone can just "set the record straight" for me and a many thanks!

The only problem I've ever had doing this with a PC is having the pad fly off and land somewhere dirty.

FWIW, spin-drying on the rotary/Cyclo never causes any problems at all.

I hold the machine in a tub to contain the spray (and the pad if it flies off).

Great! Thanks Accumulator for that!

I've been quite curious/worried since when I first purchased my PC, I ran the motor on low and gradually sped her up for a quick conditioning but then realized from the manual to not do that so I've been concerned if any damage is done; concerns are now at rest ;); The tub idea is a good idea and easy
