Sorry...A little too early on this announcement. No $10 million yet.

They will go for the 10 million later this year. SpaceShipOne is the leading contender for the Ansari X Prize, a $10 million award to the first privately financed three-seat spacecraft to reach 62 miles and repeat the feat within two weeks.

That was so exciting to watch, the first private spaceship and astronaut to reach outer space. it shows what this country is capable of when we put our minds to it!

Gee, I wonder what they polished it with? :)

Well I have been told they shoot a paint system from the PPG line. The Cheif Engineer told me today that they use a lot of Meguair's in the shop. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

So here's my question. How long before some autopian finds those airplanes sitting there in the desert in the first picture and does some "practice" with his new rotary or pc. They look a little dull to me. And you thought practicing on a junkyard hood would give enough to get the basics down. (Please post after pictures if anyone does. :lol)

I don't want to put a damper on the festivities... this is a very impressive feat, but I wouldn't call this an accomplishment of "this country", other than it was basically paid for by our "computer taxes" paid to Microsoft :D

No... this was a private effort. An effort of some of the best and brightest INDIVIDUALS, which make up this wonderful county.

WE had the right and honor to be proud of what NASA accomplished in the '60s and '70s. The pride of this project belongs only to the team that made it happen, just as the credit for Windows goes to MS and the credit for the Viper goes to Chrysler.

Remember, there are many other teams, US and foreign, who are in this competition, and, IIRC, two teams have been granted FAA permits for test flights.

We can still rest in the satisfaction of knowing that materials and technology developed by NASA through "our" programs allowed this to be possible, and this is only the beginning of an incredible future. :xyxthumbs
