Sonus trim & motor kote - glossy?

I'm looking for a durable, glossy dressing for my black plastic front splitter, it has a slight texture. I want to get it looking glossy with a durable finish that will last more than a few days.

I've tried PB BnB, Autoglym vinyl, ArmorAll gloss, Einszett vinyl etc. etc., I have a sample of Megs Hyper dressing coming, going to try it neat.

I was thinking of trying Sonus Trim & Motor Kote, it sounds far more durable - has anyone tried it, does it dry glossy and how durable is it? I did a search and didn't find any definitive answers.

Cheers!

I have black plastic saddlebags on my motorcycle that are textured to look like leather. I tried all kinds of glossy dressings, and at best, they lasted for a week. To make matters worse, you had to be carefull with cleaners because anything harsh would start cracking the plastic.

My eventual solution? Spray paint them clear gloss, and take care of them like they're paint. Permently glossy, and no more unusual care.

Pick up some glossy clear (I'd prefer a polyurethane paint, even though the spray bombs are air-curing instead of catalyzed), degrease the area thoroughly, mask off the areas you don't want painted, and go to town. Several light coats are better than one heavy coat (we don't want runs, do we?)

Good luck! :2thumbs:

This is what it looked like on my trim and it lasted for damn near two months during the rainy season.

Here is a link to the pic, because for some reason when I post pics now all it says is bandwidth exceeded. :nixweiss

Yeah that's what I'm after, I don't know if CG send to the Uk though. I'll ask, thanks for that! :bigups

RobDon, have you tried AG Bumper Treatment? That may work for you. What I did on my textured plastic, after I got it clean, was Klasse SG, that has been great. I'm sure you could use the AG equivalent, I can't remember the name of it.

When it responds well, I like the Klasse twins approach on textured exterior trim. It's working great on the MPV. Ditto for the UPP on the S8's similar trim. But once such surfaces get worn to a certain extent, that no longer works all that well. Then I switch to the Autoglym Bumper Care. AFAIK, it's no longer available in the States (I probably bought up the last of it) but some of our UK members have offered to ship it over. Doesn't streak/run off in the rain if you only use as much as you (really) need and buff off any excess. Lasts fairly long and is easy to use. Even removes some LSP/polish residues.

IIRC the Autoglym equivalent of KSG is Extra Gloss Protection.

I use mine sparingly!! I used it on the vintage Mercedes that I care for and at the last car show folks marveled over the look of the rubber on the chromed bumpers. Awesome product :xyxthumbs

I hoarded Sonax Gloss Shampoo when DavidB was selling it at 30% off a few years ago.

Bumper care IMO doesn't compare in quality to autoglym 07B bodyshop rubber and plastic cleaner

Not my only source for rubber care but is great after deoxidising trim with VM

Setec Astronomy- Glad to hear they've restocked it. Maybe you and I can take credit for that, like we showed them it's worth keeping in stock.

Spilchy- Heh heh, sparingly is right. I'm still using the almost-empty bottle I opened over a decade ago. With the changing stable of vehicles I expect to be using more of it though. It's one of those products that I just sorta like using for some reason.

SVR- Does the 07B bodyshop rubber and plastic cleaner work well as a final dressing or do you have to put something on after it for looks/protection?

FWIW, I'm not using it on rubber most of the time. Some of the surfaces I'm working with just didn't respond well to VM (or AIO or any of my other usual go-to products). The Bumper Care, which I'd almost forgotten about, saved the day and I've been using it more ever since.

You can use it as a final dressing though the protection is not that strong

I usually put stuff over it and as step 2 after removing oxidation with VM

SVR- OK, thanks for clarifying. I'll keep the VM in mind for oxidation removal too; sometimes that can be harder than one would expect.

I tried some Autoglym bumper care today, it's rubbish! It looks duller than ArmorAll gloss, wasn't impressed at all (as with most AG products).

I have found something from a UK valeting supplier though, I emailed them and asked for something durable and glossy for external black plastic and they linked me to a waterproof vinyl polish dressing they have - says it produces a bright, durable, glossy finish! :2thumbs:

Hopefully it will give me the look I'm after. :getdown

Good example of personal preferences in action. It gives the stuff I use it on a matte finish (especially after I buff on any excess), which is just what I'm after.

:werd: If you want gloss, this isn't the product.

AG's Leather Cleaner is top notch too. :)

If you are willing to pay shipping, you can check out THIS "our Brightest, Wettest Looking Shiniest Dressing" ... "one application last weeks not days"

Autopia sponsor Danase will be selling 16oz bottles of it shortly.

VM is the best oxidation remover of all time

A few firm wipes and you can see area on the cloth or pad go black with all the crap that comes off
