Sonus SFX-1...will it really help orange peel?

I just recently got my PC 7424 and have been practicing and getting some technique down. In addition I ordered the new Sonus SFX-2 and 3 polishes and must say I am happily impressed. My vehicles are a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor Platinum Pearl (hard like Audi paint) and 2004 Ford F150 Black (fairly soft as evidenced by light swirling already).

I must say that I an fairly impressed with the Sonus SFX series of polishes. Easy to use and I got great results!!

Now back to my main subject. The Ford has a fair case of orange peel although the paint is otherwise blemish-free and in new condition. So, short of wet-sanding, do any of you have any comment on using the SFX-1 in this situation? The claim is that the Sonus Orange pad, PC and SFX-1 can reduce orange peel. Is this true? And if so is there any particular advice or warnings concerning using something this abrasive on relatively new paint. I would like to give it a try...sort of thinking that ultimately all I will lose is my time and effort. BUT if I am wrong PLEASE TELL ME!! :scared

Now I am not expecting this procedure to eliminate the orange peel, but if you pros think it MAY be able to at least take some of the edge off of the peel (and that a relative noob to the PC can do it without running a huge risk) I'd be SO grateful to hear your input.

thanks in advance.

It will at the least probably reduce the appearance of the orange peel. As you know, the only guaranteed ways to remove it is to have a quality paint job done on it or some serious wet-sanding. Unless it's a show car or the paint otherwise is horrible, neither are really worth the cost or time for a full vehicle. Almost all cars have it.

I'd probably try one small area (maybe the roof) and do your entire work-up on it before taking on the whole vehicle. That way you can see the results before committing yourself to hours upon hours of work. Good luck and post pictures when/if you do it.

yep, that was basically my plan, doing the roof.

Thanks for the feedback. It's good to hear that it (1) MAY very well accomplish something and (2) should not inherently cause any harm.

Merry Christmas to ya zzyyzx

First, :welcome

SFX1 isn't going to get rid of your orange peel. Just as the previous post says, it takes a much more aggressive method than polishing to remove orange peel.

You don't have to worry about damaging anything either. That's the beauty of the PC/foam pad combination, it's extremely safe and aside from literally dropping the machine on your paint, you really can't harm it.

yeah, I never expected that it would cure orange peel. But if i can knock it down a notch or 2 I would certainly be pleased. This should be interesting. Only problem is that now I find that I will need to travel for work for the next 4 or 5 weeks so this is gonna have to wait. :-(
