Sonus now in the UK

Everyone seem the latest? The Polishing Company are now official disributors for Autopia and Sonus! Saw it last night when I checked the usual suspects for news. Should now be cheaper to buy PC pads etc, but the microfibre prices are on the high side.

It's a shame the $ prices didn't directly convert to £ prices, not that i was expecting anything else. Apart from the pads it all seems a bit expensive... i think i'm going to continue getting my Sonus from Autopia... look at the price of the concours towel :furious:

It annoys me how most US products in the UK are "the same price" - i.e. the dollar sign just gets changed for a pound sign, but I guess by the time you've paid the import duty and VAT on them there's probabably not a lot of margin left. However, I've always found The Polishing Company to be expensive, hence I've never ordered anything from them. £82 for the pro bucket - get a life! They also don't stock the DAS pads from the look of things.

Ben

I agree with Ben, If I thought the £82 bucket would help me to look after my car better than my 3 x 0.99p ones I'd buy it, but alas I don't think it will! :nixweiss

All of the other prices look very expensive, I'll continue to use Alex & Ron.

Oh dear, at least it is easy to order from Autopia direct! I will stick to that an my normal UK suppliers I think.

even the normal MF's - Ouch!

MF Der Wunder polishing towel green £ 12.87

Don't know why the prices are so high... import duty is only 3 - 6.5% on car care goods, plus VAT on the lot. Even adding highish overheads doesn't seem to add up.

Might be worth finding out whether autopia will still send us stuff now that we have a UK distributor!

Think I'll stick with the UK Pakshak towels and the usual suspects in terms of products personally.

How long will TPC last if they're flogging PC's I wonder - if they aren't CE approved then they're effectively breaking the law as I understand it.

Can't see anyone paying those prices when you can order for a fraction of that and get it in 3 days from Autopia!

They are indeed - I was on the phone to trading standards today checking this out. They are unlikely to get into trouble for it, but if a customer has an accident and sues, they will be in a whole heap of bother. Ron is doing the same. Not a risk I'd be willing to take, better to just direct people to Autopia or Autogeek for now, until CE certification is in place.

PC UK (Corroy) felt that selling a non-CE approved tool was suicide, hence why he's not doing it. In today's "where there's blame, there's a claim" culture, dangerous waters IMHO.

Daft really, run it through CE, get a 3 pin plug on it etc and they'd have sold truckloads of them by now!

It's amazing what you can actually get in the U.K. compared with just a couple of years ago. Granted, the prices seem to be on the high side, but increased exposure to high end products has to be good for "serious" detailers in the U.K. :brit

Now let me just do that order to Autopia............

The PC is nearly twice the price. It's crazy :scared:

This is what I can't work out. Take the Sonus professional bucket for example that ACC sell for for $69.95, which at todays exchange rate work out to be £38.65.

£38.65*1.065(6.5% import duty)*1.175(VAT) = £48.37

So TPC are making £34 (excluding their overheads) on a damn bucket!

Ben

Tidy profit!!! If any one off here buys that bucket at that price I will come and stick there head in it!

Agree with Peter here things have moved on so much from the options we used to get. Autoglym and over priced Zymol and Wax Wizard products when I first getting serious. Then we where able to get things like Blitz and S100, and Meguiars allowing you to purchase pro line stuff if you asked was as good as it got. Now we are really spoilt for a price!

I agree too, and I sell the Pak Shak towels in the UK!! Dont forget that he wont be paying the price that you see on Autopia but i "trade" price too.... maybe he is whacking all the delivery that he has to pay onto the buckets....

I know that my orders without any import duty have a cost of about $300 - $400 for delivery so that has to be put in somewhere.

Or, maybe he is just Greedy... Supply and Demand and all that....

Hello

I feel that I should respond regarding the pricing of Sonus products in the UK

In an era of world wide on line shopping we can personally purchase just about anything from just about anywhere

However i should point out that the vat paid on import is actually calculated on the total cost of the goods + the cost of the carriage. The duty aspect is actually negligible when compared to this. Although I have worked hard to gain approved shipper status with carriers to keep the freight costs down the cost of shipping larger amounts of products is high being calulated on volumetric weight. This means shipping cost are anywhere between 30% to 50% of the cost of the product. I was recently quoted over £700 to ship a similar weight by a national carrier! this equated to almost 100% of the cost of the product. If anyone would like to get a cost for shipping 150Kg from California to the uk then customs clearance, handling charges and delivery to another UK destination I am sure that you will concur that importing on a commercial basis is a whole different ball game from a personal import via USPS.

In addition the company is limited and vat registered, unlike many of our on-line competitors and as such we have to give Mr Brown 17.5% of the sale price on everything we sell. So in effect HM's Gov collect from us twice. I am not making a "fat profit" as many may imagine

I hope that this clarifies things just a little for you all.

Having done some test "purchases" of small orders from Autopia and compared the carriage costs the UK supplied items compete if you take the vat and other costs into consideration.

eg order 2 x Sonus SFX clay bars from autopia and the total cost is $58.70 including shipping. Add duty and VAT at the uk end and the cost is approximately £41 and you haven't had to pay HMG 20% on top.... CF the on line price is £39.

It would be nice to be able to lower carriage charges as well but again HMG takes 17.5% of "carriage" yet we can not reclaim the cost of postage!

Re the Pro Bucket...... yes the price is a joke! but at least you all looked !! The bucket comes with seat liner lid etc. The travelling dolly costs the same as the bucket and it weighs a ton! I'm going to ask David if he will sell just the buckets lids and insert combo which will be a more sensible £35. I do know the supplier of the system but they won't sell direct to me as they supply Autopia and I do not wish to upset one or the other. I could by direct at US RRP but the cost of transportation means it is not viable.

It does however surprise me that these types of quality goods are not available in Europe....

Having used the Sonus range in my own business I firmly believe these are excellent products and I hope that I may count on your support. To this end I am happy to offer discount vouchers to clubs and groups who wish to purchase from "the UK" despite all its red tape and expensive pricing. Feel free to e-mail me for a 10% introductory voucher code if you want to purchase via my on-line shop.

e-mail to tpcl@thepolishingcompany.com

Fair play to you for that BUT if I import 2 Sonus SFX clay bars from autopia, all I pay is $58.70 - which is less than £39 at the current exchange rate.

Can you also answer whether autopia USA will still sell to UK customers? I appreciate that VAT etc are out of your control but as things stand I'm afraid it's cheaper to buy direct from autopia USA
