Sonus Leather Conditioner issue

After reading several threads on leather conditioners on autopia I decided to pick up some sonus leather conditioner based on people's comments and reviews. I have an 03 G35 with willow interior. I bought it with 30k on it and have cleaned the leather twice in the past 6 months. I use Lexol Cleaner (again based on autopia research) and then finish with Sonus. I have noticed that there are more visible creases in the leather now that I have used the conditioner. It almost looks drier then before.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this? I am thinking maybe I need to apply a couple of applications back to back as I am not sure how it was maintained during the first 30k. Could it be extra dry? I like the matte finish so the sonus is good for that. I just want to make sure I am doing everything correct. I would hate to buy another conditioner but if I need to I can.

Also I noticed that on the driver's side seat bolster a dark spot has popped up (almost looks like excessive wear) that wasn't there prior to using the cleaner and conditioner.

Any and all thoughts/recommendations are greatly appreciated!!:woohoo:

Thanks

Rich

Conditioners are a pointless excercise on finished leather and can leave reesidues on the surface which will attract more dirt and body oils. This could be the reason they appear more creased as dirt may have collected in the creases.

Use aprotector instead as this will actually do some good.

So I take it the G35's have finished leather?? I am not a big fan of the protectors because of the glossy finish they leave. Are there any protectors that are not glossy? Also I didn't know there was a big difference in protectors versus conditioner? Lastly how do you tell if an auto's leather is finished (and what does finished imply)?

Hey!

Lets be clear from the start, just b/c i product says is a conditioner doesnt mean that it has to be flooding the car with oils.

There is plenty of mispresentation in the autodetailing industry, just think of the world "polish" if you will.

To answer your question, the Wolfgang Leather Conditioner has worked well for me for a number of yrs. Easy to apply and seams to protect the leather very well. Dirty and fluids to wipe away easy even after they have been on there a few hours.

This product beads fluids, isnt greasy, doesnt leave the car seats shiney, doesnt have a strong aroma.

Same here buddy. 04 G35 coupe 6mt. I'm in the same boat. Not with sonus, but with having a g35 and trying to figure out how to keep my leather in good condition. I have Black interior btw. I'm currently using the lexol line as well with no satisfaction. Looking for a better alternative.

I guess the Infiniti leather is coated and the conditioners don't really absorb as stated above. I read on G35Driver that a lot of people had luck with Zaino but that is also a conditioner so I am not sure how well that will work. I am going to start a new thread asking for advice on coated leather.

FWIW, I like to just stop after the cleaner. Lexol is good, but I prefer Zaino or Duragloss. No gloss, cleans, never oily. Seems softer, maybe just from the water in the cleaner. I agree about the gloss after using protector.

If the protector is leaving a glossy finish then it is not a true protecor but is adding something to the surface. A good protector that acts like a scotchgard wil leave the leather looking as it was when it was new ie. if it had a shiny finish then it will leave it shiny if it had a matt finish then it will leave it matt. The protector should add mothing to the surface that you can see or feel but should inhibit dirt and oils from damaging the finish.

Most leather in cars today is finished leather (with some exceptions). This means that it has a pigment coating on the surface and has a clear coat finish added. If your cleaner stays on the surface of the leather and is not soaked into the leather then you have a finished leather. The key here is to keep that finished surface clean and free from dirt and body oils which will help to keep it in good condition.

Protectors are easy to test to see how effective they are. Some conditioners may be protectors as well but it is important to ensure that they work otherwise the product is a waste of time and money.
