Sonax Polymer Net Shield on 2010 black GT-R

I applied a new product, Sonax Polymer Net Shield, to my 2010 black GT-R this past weekend.

It's the first time I have used a sealer. Historically I would wax with P21 Carnuba, or Sonax nano technology wax, but the Polymer Net Shield came recommended by a detailer, so I gave it a try. Its supposed to last for 6 months.

As with any sealer, the key is really in the prep work, to get the paint ready. Car was washed (multiple times with Dawn) and then clayed; a couple of swirl marks removed; and the entire car was polished / "jeweled"; rewashed, and then each panel was wiped down with IPA (10%) solution.

I happen to start with the front of the trunk on my car, but door jams might be a good place to start, too. Make sure the foam applicator is saturated with product, it really helps. Application is pretty straight forward, Just smoothly wipe it on evenly covering the surface. I worked a 2 x 2 section at a time and immediately buffed that area. It is a bit of a challenge to buff off, but near the end I was finding more success when I didn't fold the Micro Fiber towel in 4, and just used the towel "open". The product seemed to blend better, and then you can flip the towel to buff. I ran through about 7 towels. You can wash the towels and reuse them, it's not like Opti-Coat where you have to throw the towels away. The guy in the application video below, seems to have it down, pretty good.

The final results is the car looks really good. In fact, its probably the best since new. The product adds a nice depth to the black paint, a really nice shine, and that "wet" look.

The Sonax cured overnight outside and then I drove for 2 hours in the rain and had a chance to check out the beading effect. Stellar, is the only description.

While not easy to apply, I have to say that I really like the results of the Sonax Polymer Net Shield product, and give it 5 stars, so far.

If it lasts for 6 months, like Sonax is saying, that would be awesome !

Here is the link to a review on a detailing forum out of the UK, where there is a write up of the product and lots of pics and video's on how it beads H2o.

Have used this on a few vehicles and it works great. I dont know why those guys in UK are having difficulties, as I have none.
I put it on with a small yellow round foam pad and take it right off after I have done that entire panel, with microfiber cloths.
No grabby, just easy to apply, easy to remove.
Do not wait an hour, etc., like some of those guys on that UK thread, either. It would never come off waiting that long Im thinking.
Too bad its not like Opti-Seal that just sprays on and you walk away from it.That would be an awesome product then.
Getting way more usage from the can than others, but then I learned over 14 years ago, how to use Zaino and apply really thin, even coats..

Agreed, open microfiber and a thinner one works better too. I find it to be slightly challenging to buff off, but your technique is almost the same as mine and I absolutely love this product, I even use it on windows.
