A rather badly swirled yellow lotus came to see me today. In harsh sunlight the car failed the 5 foot test miserably, despite its light colour the swirls were horrific as can be seen in the first two pictures. Note also the two same shots taken afterwards.
First up the wheels and arches were cleaned. Wheels took almost half a bottle of wonder wheels and afterwards were waxed with megs cleaner paste wax. The tyres were dressed with megs endurance gel and the arches degreased with castrol greentec and then dressed with ag vinyl and rubber dressing.
Next the roof was cleaned with ag soft top cleaner and once dry sprayed liberally with 303 aerospace protestant.
Glass was taken care of with ag glass polish and the plastics with plast-x.
The car was cleaned first with a triple strength non descript cheap shampoo and clayed at the same time. Surprising claying was very easy and bar the lower panels little was picked up. AG tar remover was needed on lower panels and finally the car was ready for polishing.
Poorboys SSR2.5 was only tickling the swirls so I stepped up to ssr3 on a 4 inch pc pad and afterwards removed the haze with ssr2.5. Lake country cutting pads were used. I had to work in direct sunlight because the lotus was too low for my drive so the polish was drying very fast.
The paint is 9 years old and had a lot of deep random isolated scratches that the pc wasn't going to remove.
I chose megs #21 by hand to finish.
