Some Questions

Well I got a flex l3403 vrg for Christmas and a lot of menzerna polishes (never used menzerna before)

Seeing as though I have never used them before or a rotary for that matter. I have read the thread by Todd, regarding jeweling / burnishing the finish with a soft 0 (zero) cut pad. But I have some questions:

Is this about right, for product pads / etc

Power Gloss = orange ccs / PFW

SIP = orange ccs or PFW (sometimes white on softer paints, I'll probably start with a white pad to begin with anyway until I get alot more experience)

I am aware of the Zenith Technique. However I get a little confused when attempting to finish up with a rotary. I have 85RD and 106fa, which one do I use to finish with if I am going for absolute perfection and the highest gloss possible, I assume its this way:

106fa = white ccs or blue ccs (blue if finishing with 106fa?)

85rd = blue ccs / red ccs

unless the paint is super soft (ie honda type), then I guess I can finish with just 106fa via rotary, but what are the odds of buffer trails / holograms?

I also have the wolfgang 3.0 paint sealant, I liked the slickness in the sample I got from AG this past summer.

Menzerna polishes are so different in there names than the hitemp products or the meguiars products, I just have to get used to them and until then I will have questions! :)

assuming I am correct with the above 106fa and 85rd and pad selections, it would be possible to jewel the surface with a rotary and it be hologram / buffer trail free? I believe Todd does this, and I would like to learn how to do this with the rotary ;)

I assume with the rotary you dont need near as much pressure than as you do with the PC/UDM, due to the nature of the rotary not being a DA polisher. So about 5-10 lbs of pressure (perhaps 5 lbs in addition to the weight of the machine is all thats needed?)

wow thanks for reading and woohoo I got a rotary ;)

Congrats! Work them until clear - appear to be "hologram" looking.

Yes, orange for correction and white for finishing. On softer paints (Subaru, Honda, Porsche) sometimes all you need is a white pad and 106FF, depends on the level of damage.

Yes. Also, with some vehicles the "German" green ccs comes in handy when working with 106. 85rd also can be used in place of 106, with a white pad - need to try different combinations and see what works for you.

Once again, depends on the vehicle, speed of rotary, technique etc. Running over the panel with a blue ccs will take care of it most of the time!

If you like sealants definitely try JetSeal109. Also, try Menzerna FMJ if you want slickness! Both look and last a few months!

Oily, Oily, Oily!

No pressure, just control. Think of it as a roller coaster, you are along for the ride! After some experience with the Flex - you will get used to it.

Have fun with it :)

thanks martin and blk45. I have the chart already, its the naming of the compounds/polishes that confuses me a little bit, I have re-typed out the menzerna chart and its now in my toolbox for reference.....

thanks for the replies :)
