So many waxes, so many choices?

From Souveran paste wax to the Swiss Crystal rocks, how is one suppose to know which is the best when they all claim to "be" the best? I've been looking for a new wax to use this spring and all these waxes range from a few tens to over a thousand dollar for a jar!!! How do you guys know which one is right for you if these prices make it impossible to be diverse? I'm middle class so my price is around $100 for a wax and no more. Any opinions on the following:

Souveran paste

Migliore Primo

Fuzion

Dojo

recommend other?

thanks.

IMO the best affordable wax HAS to be P21S 100%. Essentially they are all the same thing, and I wouldnt be able to justify spending hundreds sometimes even thousands on a carnauba wax that will be washed away in a month or so. FYI P21S 100% is about 50 bucks.

IF your not set on a wax, I would go with a sealant, just like a wax may not give the "depth" but it lasts alot longer and to me looks great. I use Menz FMJ myself. As for wax's I use S100 (p21s) and it really looks great. I have heard Swissvax is just wow. As I said I droped wax's a while back and the only reason I have S100 is for people that request a wax over a sealant.

i prefer wax over sealant because it looks so much better. And i predict/hope i will be able to wax the car every 4 or 5 months intervals. Well anyway, i jump the gun and bought Migliore primo blend. was 80$ including shipping. They are so new to me, and the few reviews of them are pretty good. I hope it was a good purchase.

you can search and search this forum and never get a right answer. you will find many waxes seem to be more popular though. those are great ones to look further into. just keep in mind bias toward brands / hearsay about products. really good nuba's can go from (depending on who u ask) p21s 100%, lusso oro, or s100. take in mind the select "best" ones will require "best" money, which may not be of use to u. most people won't see a difference in most waxes. as the wax user though, you WILL tell a difference on ease of use.

the key is not best - it's whats the most cost effective wax for you to get. you could try the classifieds to buy samples of one's your interested in for cheap b4 shelling out your dollars.

overall my biased personal opinion on cost effective (giving u performance outside of their given price range) would be lusso oro, p21s 100%, dodojuice diamond white (i hear it's extremely close to supernatural), souveran, and even supernatural itself(as it's competing with 1k+ waxes).

Instead of talking merely about brands:

1. any reason why you're looking at only waxes?

2. what colour is your car?

3. how often do you detail your car?

4. what's the temperature in your area?

To me, all carnaubas are not durable, especially in hot weather.

Yes, they hv a nice glow and yes, they do appear very exquisite and glamorous.

Also depends on your car colour. I personally find carnaubas a waste of time on light colours. S100 is certainly great, but durability is lousy.

note:

I use Swissvax alot, only on customers who come in every month.

There's very little diff between Swissvax Onyx and the much more expensive Concorso. So, I'm stuck to Onyx. On well prepped surface, Onyx has that rich, lively, molten liquid look. I use the ice water technique to put on multiple layers, and my customers are very impressed by it, especially on reds and blacks.

where does 50/50 pete's 53 Natty's blue Clearkote fit in

see what I mean different stroks fir different folks

There are many "good" waxes to choose from. Don't worry about which one I think is best and which one someone else thinks is best. The top waxes are all good. The best one is the one you use and like the most.

Just like there is no best food, their is no best wax for everyone.

I really like IW845 and 476s...cheap on clearance at Harbor Freight and I get 3 - 4 months out of IW845, and better than 6 months to 7.5 months out of 476s...

note to the wise though, DO NOT LET 476s dry on the car, buff it off while wet (do 1 section at a time), its a true PITA to get it off after its dry....

Have you polished your paint until it's near perfect? Then you can tell them apart.

Until you create a perfect base you won't see much difference between waxes.

Polishing is more important than LSP.

Anymore at the Durham store? I bought 8 of them so far :p

I would try Collinite, it is HARD to beat on durability!

I know the Collinite line of waxes really isnt that glamorous, but there are a gob of guys on here that swear by its durability, and it looks very nice as well.

Once the weather warms up, I for one am going to add Nattys Blue to my arsenal. Its not what you would call an expensive wax, but it looks great and has decent durability as well. Just my $.02 Good luck!

I respectfully disagree with this. While near perfect paint is an absolute must if your going to be spending $100+ dollars for a high end wax, I personally cannot tell much of a difference (as I suspect most of us non professionals) can in a side by side test. With that in mind, why would someone spend large sums of money for this?

I remember someone saying Pinnacle Souveran was awesome for a "high end" wax, to which I ran out and bought a can. Subtle difference to P21s and other's IMHO. I emphasize subtle, because (again IMHO) it's not worth the extra $50 to $1000's of dollars for SUBTLE. :usa

You say you use ice water, Tell me how you do that:confused:

You are going to get a million different answers and I think it comes down to what you want the vehicle to look like and how long you want it to look like that.

I love Pinnacle Souveran on dark colors but it lacks durability

I love Collinite durability but it doesn't have the depth and wetness as Pinnacle

P21S is a good overall wax

I wouldn't rule out using a sealant for durability and then topping with a wax.

IF you can find it, Meguiar's #16 looks good on many different paints and is quite durable. Cleans up well too, including doing the "self-cleaning" thing in the rain.

And *ALL* of this stuff is eye-of-the-beholder anyhow; IMO it's almost pointless to ask which wax to use based on looks..everybody sees things differently.

Heh heh, people say waxes like Souveran are pointless on light colors, but my wife could always spot it on her silver Audi; it's her favorite LSP for that paint. She could also tell right away when I switched that car from #16 to Collinite (I went back to the #16 that she likes so much better).

Oh, and it still surprises me to hear people say that 476S is a pain to buff off after it dries...never seems remotely tough to me :nixweiss
