So I'm giving it another go......

Well after hurting my shoulder and having it put me out of commission, i'm giving detailing part time another go.

I was able to trade my dewalt rotary for a PC mostly b/c i couldnt handle the dewalt anymore b/c of my shoulder. So i took a test detail of my car, 2004 GTO, and let me tell you it feels great to do it again. But i had a few ?'s since i've been out of the loop a long time.

Since my gto was pretty bad, i park under a tree and havent had it detailed since i got it (wouldnt let anyone else touch it), i used poorboy's ssr3. Everything went great, but removing the product afterwards was a pain in the arse. I mean it was like stuck on there. It added at least 40 min to my detail b/c of it. So once i knew my day was shot i went all out, used ssr2, then ssr1, polished, waxed, and sealed. The car came out "retarded" and i was psyched. But there were still some slight swirl marks?

Thing is that whole detail took me about 4 hours and i didnt even start the inside. Looking back i probably should've started with ssr2, but i didnt. Did i over do it? i think i might have....

Now granted if i do a customers car i wont take 6 steps for the exterior. Probably cut it down to 3, but what three? I sorta feel lost in the proper order for poorboy's right now, expecially after having the ssr3 be a biotch. And i dont know the proper applications when "working" as opposed to recreation.

Anyone got any input?

Glad you're feeling better :)
ok ..now..why would you need SSR3 on a 2004 GTO? the most aggressive I would go is SSR2.5 with a polishing pad and perhaps if abused an Orange light cutting pad. SSR3 with a PC should be used very sparingly and worked on a speed of six until it fully breaks down for easy removal. My guess would be that you used too much, didn't work it long or fast enough. Forthose light swirls you may see I would go back to SSR2 or SSR2.5 with a polishing pad and work them to your satisfaction. Use the PC at a speed of 5-5.5 and remember to fully work the product. :)
