So here is a mini horror story...

So...i too my car in to get serviced today, at the local Audi dealership...and proceeding to the service desk, I see a detail sign of all the packages they offer!! Looked it over while i was waiting, their most expensive detail is $150. I just asked the service manager out of curiosity, how ofter they do full details...he replied with about 2/3 a day! Not too bad...but heres the kicker...

I can see their detailing bays from the service desk, and I kinda wondered closer without getting yelled at and I noticed a "young kid" finishing up a car, well actually cleaning up...looked like he uses the two bucket method, but BOY WAS I WRONG!! I continued to pour the buckets out on the shop floor, out falls out disgusting water and 3 wash mitts, iin each bucket. After rinsing the buckets out, he then picked up the mitts and placed them back in the buckets and set them aside! Didn't bother rining them out or even wrising them!

So after me almost punching the kid for doing that...i get my car, they pull it up...and what do you know ITS WASHED!!! I specifically said no to the wash too!! Grrr...

Well i purposly left out business cards of my detailing...and what do you know they are all gone from inside my car!! Ahh haha, they took them cause they cant wash a car!!!

Just a little story that made me angry...

You forgot the part about how the dealer wash put tons of swirls in your hard Audi clear and you had to spend all night polishing them out, but couldn't get out the RIDS without compromising your clear...

You're supposed to post pics!!!

Here's mine from a bmw dealership...

I work at a sign shop now so i made "do not wash" signs on clear static cling material. I just toss those badboys on the windows while i'm at the dealership :)

Ill post some tomorrow...i havent touched it yet...i need to see how bad it is in the daylight...i know its going to be horrid!!

Shouldn't there be some sort of admission on the dealership's part? If they scratched up your windows like that, I'm sure they would have to fix, or pay to have it fixed.

Either that, or don't take you car in unless it needs major service. Don't most autopians know how to fix their own cars?

That's a question I've been wanting to ask. How many people do all the work on their cars? Not in warranty of course

I know the feeling man. I had a hard time going back into my garage the night it happened. The worst part about my incident was i had just finished detailing it 5 days before they washed it.

Warranty. The reason i bought my bmw is because it was still under original warranty, then cpo warranty and extended maintenance plan. The only money i put into is for insurance, gas and mods. Plus the dealership mounts and balances my tires for free without scratching up my rims. I actually like my dealership and my service adviser. The only time they did me wrong is when they washed my car.

Plus it's fun to drive the hell out of the loaner cars.

Thats an understatement...most Autopians know how to detail a car...not fix a car!!! Huge difference...and its under warranty, so why would I waste my time and money(parts) to fix my car, rather than have a professional fix it for free?? I had a coolant leak...non fixable in my book...so you shouldn't assume everyone knows how to fix cars...

I do everything possible...last option, take it in for service...my car is still under wrranty so, ill have it all done for free!

Only crappy part is my car is modded...so if I take it in, it turns back into stock mode...including swaping ECU's and injectors...such a hassel but worth it!

I have a good relationship with my Infiniti dealer. If I take the car in for maintenance I tell them just to vacuum the interior and they only vacuum the interior. Never had a problem with my local dealer (or any Infiniti dealer for that matter) as far as not washing the car when I don't want it washed.

As far as fixing my own car, I don't have the knowledge to fix the car but I can usually diagnose the issue. So I go into the dealer and tell them very specifically what I want replaced. If I see anything about diagnostic charges on the work order I refuse to sign it. I've only ever once been challlenged on it, and after I showed the service advisor exactly where the failed part was they shut up.

Yeah, I finally got it through my Audi dealer's thick skulls to not wash my car. They write it in huge print on my ticket. I took it in back in December though and they washed it anyway. The service advisor tells me it's a handwash. I say, "uh-huh, I'm sure it is". Anyway, had to take it back in a couple of weeks ago after spending 2 days polishing and waxing exterior alone and was very, very clear on them not washing. They ended up having it a week and the service manager calls me wanting to know if they can give it a wash to knock some of the dirt and bird poop (just on windows) off. I ask, "do you guys use the 2 bucket method?". Service manager, "Uh, what's that". Me, "I'll pass, it's ok, no need to wash it".

I do ALL the work on my Jeep and even some Warranty work depending on what the problem is. I took it in for one recall that covered the rear glass switch in the door handle so I had to let them do that work. They of course scratched my paint on the drivers side door, how, idk.

They recalled the lower balljoints and I didnt worry with it. I went ahead and changed them out myself with greasable MOOGS. They would of used crap that would of worn out sooner or later anyway.

I also had a air bag light come on which turned out to be a bad sensor in the passenger side seat belt. They ended up replacing the entire seat belt.

Some things youve got to let the stealership handle. And I DO NOT consider the people working at a stealership 'professionals.'

I change my own oil, save a bunch and I know that the it's done right. Autozone takes the old oil after I collect about 5 gallons of it for free.

I can understand you taking it in for that. sorry for the vagueness of my response. I just don't like to let the dealership do anything to the car if I can help it. I won't spend all weekend doing ball joints if it is under warranty still.

If the car was not under warranty, and had a bad thermostat, that's another story.

Sucks that they butchered your paint. I've seen children wash a car more carefully than that.
