Snow Sculpting Competition

I've been looking for a product like this for a long time. Anyone tried it? Looks pretty promising. I have several window moldings on my Acura that need to be dyed to black. Also, i want to get the 8oz. dye w/o the cleaner, so which cleaner should I use prior to dyeing? I have Meguiars #39, thought that might work.

Thanks.

here's an before after shot

Why don't you want the cleaner? together its only 10 bucks.. I got mine at vw dealer..
Make sure not to apply too much each time, apply thin layers.. or else its going to flake off. Might want to tape off the car like I did.. or just becareful..

Thanks for posting the pic. I wanted to get as much dye as possible because I'm going to use the rest on my friend's Jeep Cherokee when I'm done w/ the Acura. Since I already spent $10 on the Meguiars, firgure I'd put it to good use. Is it really permanent? Since it "dyes" the material, why would it flake off? I went ahead and ordered some from CMA, I'll give it a shot.

BTW, will it stain the paint if it gets on it in some parts?

Thanks again.

I wonder if they make a forever gray? I got a feeling I will need it eventually with all the grey plastic I have on my truck.

Hopefull the protectant I use every saturday willprevent the fading but I would love to have a security blanket out there!

You are going to have quite a challenge on those plastic panels. I will toss one product out to you to try. 303 aerospace protectant. You will have to put plenty on, and it may not work. I don't know what GM is recommending on those big ol' panels - good luck

Guess, as I aluded to before, if you go with Klasse I would put that on it. The acrylic protection works well.

Tim is that what you do with your Rav? if not do what he does on his plastic panels :)

I never asked GM. I seen the crap they sell and its remarketed junk.

I may ask though. Either that or the manufacturer of the panels.

I thought of 303 I see west marine sells it locally I ma y try it.

If the birds would stop crapping on it. What is it with grey and bird crap?

I tried the new formulation of Back To Black and it worked great for me.

It was on rubber moldings that were in pretty good shape, though. Went from looking like 4 year old to more-or-less new. This was on the Expedition. I haven't done all of it yet so I could take pictures of identical sections with and without.

If applied correctly, it should last about an year. I applied too much on the front bumper, flaked, applied over, and its just got plain ugly.. I removed and reapplied it. The rest of the car are looking great though. I'm guessing one bottle of FB should last you two cars with two coats each.. my 91 vw golf has a lot of plastic trims, but I still had 1/3 bottle left after I wasted a bunch and 3 coats on the trims..
Again, THIN layers.. 2 thin layers should suffice. Might also want to wear latex gloves if you don't want dye on your hands..
After your done, your trims will have a dark blueish tint(as seen in the pic).. looks better than new! I compared it with a new trim piece I bought.. the new one is just black, FB has the nice tint. :)

Yesterday we went up to Breckenridge, CO for the International Snow Sculpting Competition. Got there at dawn and it was COLD. Sun rise was 7:05AM and the sun came over the mountains about an hour later. Lighting conditions were interesting - 20 ton blocks of white snow in the shadow show up blue in the pics (it's largely the deep blue sky refecting off the snow) but turned bright white when the sun came over the mountain.

Drive was great - 90 miles from home, roads were dry and traffic moved fast! The apogee full moon was in my eyes most of the way -man was it bright! Almost had to put the visor down.

Here are a couple samples.

Here is the scoop on the block of snow:

Wow! Those are incredible!:thumbup: Thanks for posting that.

I took a walk in my neighborhood this afternoon and saw about 30 to 40 snowmen, some were pretty good and creative, some left me thinking, "Just what were they trying to accomplish here?"

It's always entertaining when snow comes to NashVegas... and scary to drive in!:scared:

OK, quit teasing and post some pics :drool5:

Got 70 pics on my Photobucket accounts but posting links is against the rules.

HOWEVER, right click on any of these posted pics then select View Image and look at the address bar...

Now change the "://i666" to "://s666" and delete the picture name at the end after the last slash (after /2010 International Snow Sculpture Competition/). After the last slash add "?start=40" so the last part of would be like this:

/2010 International Snow Sculpture Competition/?start=40

nice pics.... the wife and i went to a sand sculpting competition in va beach that was simply amazing. we'll make sure to go there every year henceforth...

Cool pics :)

I'll take that literally - as in the temp when we exited I-70 at Frisco was 3 degrees below zero (but it warmered up to a balmy 4*F in Breckenridge). The forecast low for that night was 14*F - boy did they get THAT wrong!

My fully charged camera battery gave up after 30 pics because of the cold...I carried a spare fully charged in my pocket 'cause I knew that would happen!

Thanks for your kind words, everyone!

GEWB
