Smokey, N the Bandit !

A classic on steroids ! This car came to my attention a few days ago. The owner wishes to get it ready for an upcoming pontiac meet. This T/A has gone through a frame off restoration. The owner has over $100.000 invested into this incredible ride. If envy is one of the seven sins Im guilty of all seven.:bounce

The attention to detail was everywhere, even the underside of the car was cleared, and polished. There was reflections in the frame rails under the car.

Thanx !:2thumbs:

You should change the title to "Smokey and the Bandit 2" so people don't get their hopes up! :rofl

I love second gen f-bodies

but I am just not seeing $100,000

oh and tell him to weld on the SFC

if that engine makes any power those bolt holes will be streched out in no time

Cool car. :)

Interesting choice with a big block Oldsmobile engine, even though the 403 Olds was an option, most either go with the Pontiac 400 or 455.

:DRemember the 6.6 T/A was built for extreme horsepower. So the addition of sub frame connectors is just an added value. This is not a civic made of recycled beer cans. This is american steel, I think the sfconnectors are over kill.

wait just a minute this is a 1979

the Bandit was a 1977

Why so crucial, just enjoy. Instead you look for faults. Whats going on man ? nevermind I dont care ! If you cant see 100,000 then I feel bad. If I was to take a car from yesteryear, and replace every bolt, and polish every square inch ?:sign

the 79 6.6 was only 220 Hp

and that 403 olds was rated @ 185

NOT that extreme

that car prob. makes 2x or 3x that power now

I had a 78 Z28 that I would twist so bad that I poped the t-top out more then once

with a mild engine

trust me the the SFC are not over kill

NOT that extreme....any way it's the torque that twist the frame

and both were rated at low 300's

sorry not trying to be crucial, just thinking out loud

trust me I do enjoy the pics

Big jim post pic of your Z28. Im not breaking your balls.

which one do you want pics of?

I have a genuine love, and appreciation for classic cars. Any of your pics will do. Ive always liked the Z28 better. It has better lines. Its just rare these days to see a car so well thought out. I couldnt get good shots of the underside of the car, everything was new. The floor pans, and frame rails were cleared, and polished. This car once sat in a shop as just a bare frame. I find that honorable, and respectable. Just a delight to look at. I WANNA DRIVE IT !!:bow

Please take this as nothing more than a difference of opinion and NOT an attempt to start a flame war!!

There is absolutely NOTHING classic about the 79 Trans Am. As someone who has seen the original Smokey movie almost 400 times please understand that my love for these cars is extreme....LOL!! As stated above the 79 6.6 was only rated at 220HP. The 4cyl. Accord my wife drives in rated at 185....

But that's what makes this such a great country....we don't have to agree!!

I just saw something on TV about the making of the movie. Hal Needham said they used three of the cars in the filming, and there was not much left afterwards. :) The one used for the bridge-jump was totaled on impact!

If Hal Needham ever asks to borrow your ride...just say NO. :)

Now THAT'S worth posting!! I actually have that HOTROD magazine on my desk right now!!

I once owned a (new) '79 T/A, and one of my best friends had a '77 Special Edition.

So, this thread is taking me back to a younger, more simple time in my life (sigh.....).

Thanks for the memories!

And yes, a nice job!
