Smart Car Clean Up

Well guys I finally got may car back from the race shop (6 weeks :nixweiss )and went to work on it today. I have some new Yo Steve towels and these are my first MF Towels. I think I screwed up by using one to apply liquid wax to the wheels. I washed them all together in the dryer and the one used as above was like it didn't even go through the wash. The part I used to apply the wax was still saturated with it. I have since washed it by hand with liquid soap and it seems to have gotten out the wax, but now the towel doesn't seem as nice and plush.

Am I crazy or what? Should I not use the MF towels to apply and only use them to buff off? I love them for buffing and doing the windows and interior.

Thanx for the help.

I agree 100%. I would never use a MF towel to apply wax. For wheels, I use my older foam applicators. I am always afraid that using the MF to apply the wax will mess them up. If you are set on using a MF towel you can always use a cheaper one and save your good ones (YoSteve, Neatitems, etc) for buffing and QD'ing.

Leave them to soak in dish washing liquid for as long as you can then try handwashing them again. It may take several tries but I am sure they can be cleaned.

My first set of MF towels were droped on the road, you could not believe how much dirt and debris these towels can attract. The only thing I could do was bin them.

I think MF is not supposed to be dried or washed with fabric softener. If you use wax then buy another MF for drying and keep that one for waxing only.

never use a mf towel to apply wax - either apply it on a soft towel, or the foam pad of a pc buffer - mf is only for drying water out.

There's no way that I'd use a Magic Towel or high quality microfiber towel on wheels. Remember that you should never use a towel on your paint that has been used on your wheels. You should also wash these towels seperately. Laters

Thanx for the hlep guys. I guess I learned my lesson. Even towels have a learning curve now huh. :scared

Not sure who Ed is though? :p

Tonight I started on a SmartCar. This is a car my dad took in off of trade and will be selling. He doesn?t want any paint correction done but wants everything looking nice. I have the exterior done and will do the interior tomorrow.

I have a new DSLR camera that Im playing with hence the writeup on a smar car

Process:

-Remove wheels/ clean with Opt Power Clean (too narrow to get a brush in there so I figured I could just remove them almost as fast as trying to get a brush in there)

-ONR wash (I used a small pressure sprayer and sprayed the car down prior)

-Clay w/ONR lube

-Sealant w/ Menz Power Lock

-Dress trim w/ UTTG

-This stuff is great!! I traded a sample with Mark and have to say I am absolutely sold on this stuff. See pics below

Now onto the Pics

Wow, that UTTG looks very nice. Too bad they don't sell Ultima products on this site! I've got some Meguiars stuff, and some 303 stuff, but I'm not sure if either will work as well as that.

Very nice work Jon. I know that making a Smart Car look good is a very difficult thing to do, but you certainly accomplished it. Beautiful work. The UTTG looks great. I know that Corey (CEE Dog) loves it, as well as everything else in the Ultima line. How does it hold up?

Ya it is really great stuff. I cant wait to see the durability of it. I hope PAC decided to carry this in the near future since my 2oz sample will only go so far and Ill need to pick up a full bottle.

Thank you Barry I appreciate it alot buddy! It really does do a nice job and goes on very smooth and even. I dont know the durability of it yet, I just got the sample in this week. I hope to be able to tell some durability but it will depend on if the car sells or not.

I've been using UTTG+ on my tonneau & trim on the truck. It restores as well as PB's TR without the runs. Let it dry for a higher shine, give it a buff after it dries for matte. Longevity is as good or better than anything else I've tried. Works OK on tires, I prefer spray on MSLT since I have to work around RWLs on my DD.

IMO, UTTG+ is best in class. YMMV.

It is some great stuff and easy to use as well

You did a real nice job on the little roller skate. It looks very nice. The UTTG worked super, really brings everything together.

The smart cars always look like two big doors that they added stuff to so you could drive it.
