Small Scratch

When I bought my car, had a small scratch on the door handle, like someone's ring maybe. It's a slightly zig-zagy scratch. I didn't ask the dealer to take care of it, but instead requested some touch up paint.

It does go through - not just a light surface. Was wondering before I screw something up, which I'm known so well for doing, should I try something else before I try to touch it up. It's very thin. Thought about getting an old paint brush and taking out all but 1 bristle and trying to work with that - any thoughts - besides I must be nuts?:crazy

On my way to Pep Boys - going to see what trouble I can get in to.:dancin

I would use the touch-up paint you have from the dealer with a good quality crafts brush with a fine tip. That's the way I do my touch ups now. I think there was an article on Better Car Care that prompted me to do it with the brush.

Since we're talking about it, you may want to look into a Langka kit for touch-ups as well. I have used the Mother's Lankga kit with pretty good results.

JARED, you're always throwing something new out to me - my mind hasn't absorbed all you've told me yet:lol But seriously, THANK YOU!!!

I have a ton of craft brushes so will see what may work best. Any type of prep that needs to be done before, or aftercare for that fact. When you touch up - how does it look after? Will look at the Mother's you metioned.

I'm hoping to get my "gear" together soon - just so many options out there and still dazed and confused on what's going to be best for me AND my car. Was trying to read up on how to reduce the appearance of swirls / spider webs which my car does have and that just seems to be opening another pandora's box for my mind to get locked in to!

BTW, did you see my post that if you needed that paste glaz, I knew of two places that had some still? Just wanted to be sure if you needed it that I passed it along to you.

THANKS AGAIN

Debbie

Deb - I saw where you posted about the Paste Glaz, but I think that the jar i have will last me a while. It's reserved for my truck only. I saw a post by Woob (I think) this morning from the Autogeek site that stated Liquid Souveran was the ticket for lighter colored vehicles....I guess I better rethink not using it on my truck as well.

The only prep I do before I touch up is to hit the spot with some alcohol (or mineral spirits, etc.) to remove any wax, grease, etc. that may hinder the touch up paint from adhering. Then I kinda just follow the directions on the Langka kit. So far, it has worked like a charm for me. The touch up spots are usually only visible when inspecting the finish up close. When I sold my last truck, the guy that bought it didn't believe I drove it everyday on the freeway (I think I did a pretty good job of keeping the chips touched up).

Keep reading at DC. I have learned a lot, and I still feel like I am overwhelmed sometimes. I hope to keep learning more and more!
