Small Engine Help

A few days ago, I was running my Campbell Hausfeld Power Washer and the engine quit. Sounded like it just ran out of gas (sputtered a few times first), but there was plenty of gas. Oil was fine. But...

I tried to restart it, and the started cord pulls out a bit and then binds. I can get maybe one or two revolutions from it. Other things I noticed: When I checked the oil, it was smoking. When I push the prime button, I don't get that sucking sound like it's actually drawing in fuel (although there is plenty in the tank). Oh, it's a Briggs & Stratton 4 hp if that makes any difference, and it ran for about an hour before seizing up.

I know absolutely nothing about small engines. Is there anything I sould check before hauling it into the shop? Do those symptoms denote any specific problems?

Thanks for any and all help...
