Hi again,

as promised the post of the other two details, somewhat less tired today :)

My process on both cars,

Wash BMW shampoo

Clay (Yellow)

Wheels BMW acid

Tyres Z16

Interior Leather Z10 (Empty now, won't buy anymore, don't like it much)

#83 and sonus orange pads to attempt to remove swirls

AIO on green sonus pads

Now, I tried a new last step product(lsp) (new to me that is) on these two cars in, Zymol Cleaner Wax.

First up the Merc sl320 this car was badly neglected, and it came back quite well, took me the best part 6 hours to get this done, I think it may have benefitted more from a rotary, however I managed to get it back something like, I think so anyhow hope you do too.

Then the mondeo, this car cleaned up well, and some of the shots of this car show just how reflective and bright the Zymol can be, this stuff smells like bubblegum! Nice product to use too.

Paul,

Really good work, but interesting that you used the Zymol CW after AIO. Surely this would have taken away some of the AIO, or did it add that final shine/gloss?

Ben

Nice work, Paul.

The cars look great. You just reminded me of the half full bottle of Zymol cleaner wax thats sitting in the shed.

I've got a full one in the garage - didn't think much of it by hand - perhaps I'll have to try it by machine.

Ben.

I havent tried it by machine, Ben. Lat time I used it was over a yr ago, after doing the megs deep crystal 3 step by hand. Killed my arms and shoulders the next day.

Guess it may be one to try by pc next time I do a car.

Thanks for the kind comments :)

I don't know Ben, you may be right, but I think the combination worked quite well, it seemed to give a very wet look to the dark metallic Mondeo, even though as you say, it may have removed some of the AIO in the process. I guess the fact is that the surface preparation is what matters, and the AIO prepped the surface perfectly before applying the LSP, regardless of whether some AIO was removed by the cleaners in the wax or not :nixweiss

That black is fantastic. I hope my black will come out that well. What kind of condition was the car in when you began. I can tell it was really dirty but I can't really see the condition of the paint. Zymol cleaner wax... huh!

JJ

The mondeo looks so deep.

Very nice job there.

I don't often see people using a cleaner wax over AIO, though, but your results are great.

Thanks again everyone for your kind comments.

JJ I don't see any reason why your black won't come out that way at all. The paint was in reasonable condition, however there were a lot of fine swirl marks that took some time getting out with the PC. This car is a work horse, not a garage queen and it does a lot of miles on the motorways (freeways ?) at 70+ MPH. It is only 3-4 years old, but has done something in the region of 60K miles which was reflected in the paint.

So as I say I am sure you can achieve equal or better results on your own black paint, just be prepared to focus on the small areas until the car is done. Listen to peoples generally good advice on here, and if you are lucky enough to get some of the more experienced people on here lending a hand, then you have a great opportunity to do a great job.

Most importantly of all, take the time to post your pics and show us your results, most of us enjoy and appreciate the hard work we know that goes into getting a car into an 'autopian' state by the members on here.

On a slight side note to this 'epic' reply (sorry) ... a couple of people saw the car 'in person' as I was doing it, and these people knew the car before I touched it, they were absolutely astounded at how clean it came back. The owner couldn't believe it either, and refused to drive it anywhere, they just sat in their front room looking at it for the remainder of the evening! ... gotta love doing this sort of work for people for the reaction alone sometimes!

Having said all that, people like Mike (1 Clean WS6) or Scott (Scottwax) do cars like this (ie workhorse's) all the time, often to a higher standard than I achieve in a much shorter time scale, and are able to do upwards of two cars a day, and that is my next target, to try and keep my high standards but reduce the time it takes to do each vehicle. They have their processes worked out to such a fine art!

If you take all day to do your car though, then great take all day, take as much time as you need to get the results you are looking for. Don't be afraid to try the products available to you either, a lot of time the products produce a result only as good as the preparation.

:)
