Size of Meg MF Pads?

A while ago I was given a sample cutting pad which I have never used because I don't own a backing plate for the MF pads. Well, I have decided to buy the plate and a few additional pads to give the MF pads a whirl. So I measured it and it is 5.5", not 5" or 6". Am I missing something? Is the current 5" pad actually 5.5"? Somebody straighten me out here. :wall

Edit:

Ok, I see now after zooming the photo that the size is on the packaging. D'oh! I do have another question though. Do I need a special backing plate? When these first came out I could swear I read that the plate was a special design. I don't see anything special about the backing plate with the kit.

The Megs BP dissipates heat better with MFs. That being said, I am still using a LC BP but am aware of need to monitor pad temp. I'm slow enough to not have it matter. ;)

I am using the Megs Backing plate that come with the kit. It works very well and is made for the Megs MF pads. Another option is the new Optimum MF pads and backing plates. They are also made to work on a rotary.

I have noticed people having some heat problems when using LC and other backing plates. But I do think common sense would go a long way to maintaining safe work levels.

Exactly. It comes down to the size/length of the hook vs. the loop. The LC backing plate and the Meguairs use a different hook. The loop on the Meguiar's MF disc will mate perfectly (full engagement) on the Meg's backing plate. The LC's hook is just a little longer so you get more 'wiggle', which leads to more heat.

Thanks. I think my next order will have a few pads added to it. I'll try the cutting pads first since I already have a sample. I need a black car with hacked paint to work with. :D

Same here Troy and never had an issue or problem....:bigups

Dumb question? What's the diff between a foam pad and a MF pad, other than I see the MF pads look like they cost a bit less.
