Sisters Bimmer & 1st time with platinum

Detailed my sisters 3 series BMW today, and it really needed it. She had it in california for four years, taking it through automatic washes and using nothing more than the automatics liquid wax to protect it.

Needless to say it was swirled up really bad, had all sorts of dead bugs caked into the paint, that very well might have been on there all four years that she lived in LA.

Its kinda hard to see how bad it is from the picture, but if you look closely you can see that for black paint the reflection is pretty poor. It looks more gray than black, and the swirls were very deep and very visible even in the shade.

Started off with a normal wash, using gold class shampoo

Then went over the whole car using Meguiars Fine Cut Cleaner. It didn't do much for the swirls, but it took off the dead bugs, sap, and water spots very easily.

For the swirls I buffed the whole car with FI - II, which did most of the work. The swirls were much lighter and harder to see, but they wern't gone at that point. Finally after a pass with Meguiars #9 the paint was 90% swirl free and had a nice deep reflection. It actually looked black again.

Finally I did a dawn wash to remove any oils and fillers that were left behind, and followed up with a light pass with AIO.

Since I got my platinum sample recently, I figured this would be a great time to try it out. My impressions and pictures of the finished product on the next post.

I really loved platinum. It smelled great, great results, easy to remove. My only quarm is it felt alittle tacky and I had a little bit of trouble getting it to apply evenly at first. It doesn't seam to glide on quite as smoothly as SG. Once I got the hang of it, it went quick and easy.

The results were incredible. It left a nice warm, wet look that IMO looked better than blackfire. I can't wait to put another coat on tommarow after work

Looks Good!

I think im gonna try Platinum on my sisters silver 2002 C320 this week. The paint is in great condition due to the fact that if she took it to the auto car wash, she knows i will shoot her. j/k

At least, I wont have to do any swirl removal!

I hope hers looks as good as that when im done!

Again, Great Job!

Wow, that looks great! I did a white 328is today using Zaino and it came out great, but all these Platinum pics are making me want to try it. I think I'll wait until the durability jury is in though.

Where in Ann Arbor do you live? I lived there the past three years while I was at U of M.

From what I read, duribility is about the same as blackfire. Zaino is the longest lasting sealant I have tried. The ease and apearance of platinum is good enough where I have no quarlms applying it once every 2-3 months =)

I live by washtenaw, near Arbor Land Mall and the Dodge Dealership. Did you live near campus? Ever take on of Peter Allen's classes by chance?

I lived in the dorms one year, then on Baldwin (just past Hill on Washtenaw), then on Hill between Packard and Division, right across from the Jimmy John's on Packard. God I miss Jimmy John's. I don't think I took any of Peter Allen's classes. What did he teach?

Mike

Wow, that is a great transformation!

You saved the car!!!!!!

:bow :xyxthumbs

I'm sure tha car thanks you, as well as your sister!:doh

Thanks caddy man, the car looked quite pleased with its new look ;)

Malibu: He teaches mostly realestate classes. I work for his company, so I thought I might ask just in case. I know exactly where you are talking about, I eat at that jimmy johns quite often. I am addicted to those turkey tom's. :)
