Simonize Fix it pro...

After seeing the TV commercials and Billy Mays making it look so easy I just couldn't resist the magnetic pull of this product when I found one sitting on the shelf at Pep Boys. My curiosity really wanted to know if it worked as easy as they show on TV-all for only $13.

First I tried it out on a scratch on our pewter van. It seemed to do a pretty good jpb. If it goes on a bit thick you simply wipe with a soft paper towel to smooth it out. Let it cure for a day and bingo-it looks pretty good. I tried in on a deeper scratch and it worked but required a second application.

Next I tried it on my NBM paint. There I found it's weak spot. After wiping it to smooth it out it got kind of smeary looking. Even from a couple feet away I could see where I applied it. I figured I'd let it cure and see what it looked like the next day. This morning I went out and it still had a smeary look. I took some ZPC and a foam applicator and went over the areas. Wow, it cleared up and looked good.

While Fix It Pro isn't 100% perfect it does work and does a satisfactory job for clear coat scratches.

The scratch remover product that I have been really impressed with is Kit Scratch Out. It's quite gentle (or maybe I'm just timid with abrasives) but it seems to dull the edges of deep scratches, reduce minor scratches, and dehaze the surface of the paint quite nicely.

You can get a 12oz bottle of it at Autozone for around $5.

Honestly, posting a picture wouldn't do any good. On our pewter van I showed my Dad the hood and he looked from several different angles and couldn't see where I touched up a scratch until I showed him where it used to be.
