This silver evo had it all: swirls, rds, tar, repainter hood... what a pleasant surprise.

I only had one day to do this car:

we did a couple wash to start

engine cleaning

wheels

clay

one step polish (owner didn't want more)

prewax cleanser

wax

Product used:

wash:

CG cws

CG clay+lube

P21 taw/wheel clean

CG grime reaper (4:1)

polish:

mother metal polish

menzerna 106 ff on CG and LC white pad

makita

Prepsol

windows:

CG window

trim/plastic:

black wow

CG fade to black

LSP:

Zymol hd prewax cleanser

Zymol glasur

After washing the car a couple time I was surprised of how smooth was the paint and asked the owner if he had clay the car before. he said no...

I pulled the car inside turned the hallogene on and: the smooth feeling was due to an old coat of sealant and the car had so many tiny tar, sap, rust spot that bake in to paint...

It took me almost an hour of clay to remove everything! with an aggressive bar.

after that I taped the car and did a prepsol wipe to get the paint ready for polish.

The paint had a bunch of swirls and rds but overall wasn't too bad so after doing a test panel I decided to compromise correction for a better finish (only had time to do a one step) looking at the test panel 106 on a white pad remooved 90% of the defects (surprised) so I decided to go with that combo.

once done the owner treated me with burgers and hotdogs bbq (some of the best I ve had by the way) so I decided to do him a favor and pulled out Zymol hd cleanser.big mistake! my arm still hurts. this product needs to be remove right away and if you miss a spot it become rock solid and take a lot to remove but give a nice dry look to the paint. then applied zymol glassur (love the looks on silver and lightcolored paint) by hand.

finished up with the trim, dressings and window. the car came out really nice the owner was really happy. please enjoy the pictures:

Ok, I gotta detail mine soon and most of the click and brags on here are of new cars with plastic coverings on the engines so I wasn't sure what the procedure was for older cars with no coverings. Thanks.

jscort98: evo's have a big hood scoop so technically everything under the hood is suppose to be waterproof, it is just a security measure, and yeah most car on the click and brag are benz, bentley, bmw etc. with engine plastic cover. I love the evo (I own one) and they re great on the track, but they don't have the best paint...

jasonM: I own an evo and I can say that working on this paint is easy but it is not the best quality on evom every month you ll hear about a member complaining because some of the paint (on plastic part mostly) is peeling off. i used to have a subaru STI and have the same problem with only 20,000 mi!

only a couple of color pre 2005 used to be single stage ( i have been told that at least for red after 05 as a clearcoat not 100% sure)

It may be different for 05 and up but only the metallic colors had CC. The rest where SS. I don't frequent EvoM but the only parts I have seen peel first hand where the early wings on the exposed Carbon Fiber areas. I have not seen or heard of other areas where the paint just falls off the car without some sort of outside influence. Bumpers take the brunt of most damage and I can see paint peeling on ANY bumper that takes a hit that bends the paint more than it is supposed to. Bumper covers tend to be plastic, plastic tends to bend instead of dent when it gets hit. Paint doesn't like to bend very much and I can see that area peeling after an impact be it SS or CC paint. I guess what I am getting at is the term "quality". If paint is just falling off a car then it is an issue with the primer, not the paint. Think early 90's GM products. The paint falling off was the primers fault, not the paint being poor or poorly applied. Given that statement I would expect the CC Evos to experience the same failures if the paint was not bonding to the primer. I like Evo paint because it is easy to correct and doesn't marr easily. To me, that is high quality paint.

they do correct easily all this car was done with 106 and white ccs pads!

put it this way I didn't buy my evo for its look or paint

That's good to hear! I feel the same way about my DSM. Although I do spend more time detailing it than driving it these days. I've only been to the track once this summer...almost sad.

And I almost forgot to mention, awesome job on the detail.

Ryan: Thanks for the comment glasur gave the car a nice cold shine that I love for light color especially metalic silver, kind of the opposite of souverain (deep wet...). It was really nice to meet you guys the other week!

scott: thanks for the king words

Jason: I haven't been to the track neither for over a year now, it is too expensive now that I got married, sad.... and thanks

thanks 99blackse!
