Silver BMW 530i - Toto'ized

This 05 530i was in pretty good shape. Light scratches and the wheel spoke flats were awful...so I compounded them too! (easy to do with the shop lift).



This is another hard clear coated Bimmer and I tried 3M Extra Cut and a foam pad, but it was taking too long. Switched to System One and wool for compounding and ramped up to Menzerna 106ff for polishing. The results are really nice! Final protection was Meguiar's #21 Synthetic for a high gloss.



Sample scratches...not too bad, but lots of work for compounding to remove.

Toto loves it man. He uses it to save time and its a great product. Go see his posts where he did one with 3M and one Bimmer with X3. He did the System One X3 car in like 9 hours compared to like 26 hours...lol

I do....must have used too much pressure on the wool and took the car to primer!



Anal1 I like the System One product especially for the new, harder clear coats on BMW and Mercedes. The dealer is a dedicated 3M user and recognizes that Sys One will generally work faster and better than 3M Extra Cut or Perfect-It 3000 compounds.



My process is to work the X3 with wool until the finish looks like it's ready for wax. Then I move to polishing. In the Silver car, I switched to Menzerna 106ff for some extra "pop".

Toto, how do you compare the System One to the M105?

I have a gallon of 105 and probably need more practice with it....I'm having trouble finding the "good spot" for working. Most of the time I end up with too much product and it cakes up on the pad and paint surface. Tried using smaller amounts and I couldn't get it to correct. No slam on 105...I just need to figure out the best process.



The times I did use it...it dusted like crazy (but all compounds do IMO)

Are you working the X3 with the System 1 Wool pad or just any wool? I was all geared up to purchase some Extra cut. I would think that it has a little more oomph than the System 1, but I could be wrong. What do you think?

EisenHulk: because of the flatness of the spokes, I used a foam pad and System One (or really, any compound will do). I don't know BMW's paint process for wheels, so I didn't use a lot of pressure with the rotary. After I removed the scratches, I followed that with Menzerna, then a coat of Meg's #21 (which I used for the rest of the car)

Way2SSlow I use either the Sys One wool or a 3M Wool Compounding pad. Both work great. I've also used the Edge 2000 Yellow with good results (not a super cutting wool, but a great finishing wool).



3M Extra Cut definitely has the "umph" for cutting. The downside is the gritty dust that it creates. It's pretty much mandatory to power wash that stuff off the car or you will re-introduce scratches from it. Personally, I hate the smell of Extra Cut...really nasty to me.

I use compessed air, but that doesn't get rid of the grit that sticks to the body's surfaces completely. In the winter, I use ONR with good results. ONR will work and you'll see the ONR solution turn white from the grit...
