Silicone stains on interior trim

First post, howdy folks.

I sprayed some silicone behind my door panels to stop them from squeaking against the door frame. In the process a good bit fo the silicone got on the plastic door panels and I have tried the following and the stains are still there. It's a milky looking dull stain.

In order of trying:

Aerospace 303

Eagle Mag Wheel cleaner! (the cotton wadding)

Bleche-White

WD-40!

Silicone again, but this time rubbing hard immediately after.

None of these made even the slightest difference.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like it's time to pick up some SEM vinyl dye and redye it. The silicone spray might have ate away the color by the sounds of it.

Nah, probably the

Eagle Mag Wheel cleaner! (Acidic etching HF cleaner)

Bleche-White (Highly alkaline silicate cleaner)

Did the damage. And why would you attack something hydrophobic like silicone with strong acids/alkali's? That makes no sense.

If you didn't like the look of the panel, I'd just spray some armorall on it, and get the rest of the panel shiny.

No, um, I used those products to try and clean the stain off, as stated, neither of which did any further damage. I don't know what 'hydrophobic' means, but I can indeed arrange statements in their correct chonological order. :2thumbs:

Had the stain not been there, I would not have used the harsh products. I can restore shine, but that stain has to go first. I'm gonna try some fine steel wool.

Also, not sure why you think I was trying to change the look of the panel? I stated I used the silicone to stop squeaks. :hm

Fine steel wool did the trick. The tradeoff is the satin finish of the panel gets taken off with the acetone stain (according to the manufacturer, that's what did it). However, if you go over the area with a heat gun, the luster can be brought back. If that makes you uncomfortable, just keep the panel treated and you can see no difference in sheen.

Just FYI for anyone that might pull up this post and actually expect a logical answer and solution.
