Shuttle Van Decal Removal - SeaJay's Detailing

I was contacted a few weeks ago by a local hotel that was looking to get their vinyl decals removed off a couple vans. They were recently bought out and are changing the logos.

This weekend I tackled the job. Saturday was the first van which I received some help from a local forum member Andrew (Morphiusrt) for a few hours which is always appreciated! Saturday's job I didn't take any pics. But Sunday I got some decent pics of the 2nd van.

Over all both vans the decals came off very easy, as in you pull up a corner and the decal comes off in big chunks. One of the easiest decal removals I have done.

Products Used:

After all the decals and adhesive were removed I gave the van a quick wash and sprayed with Iron-x. The areas around the decals were loaded with iron particles.

After a through rinse and quick dry it was on to the polishing.

I actually received a call from the guy that will be putting the new decals on. He wanted to talk cause he said I did a very good job at removing the decals and he's been looking for someone he could use.

I hope to set up a few more jobs with him soon.

Thanks for reading.

When you took the decals off did you stretch them off or peel them off? I've found that warming the decal or shield just a little, then pulling it parallel to the surface, stretching the decal off, rather than peeling it back and off leaves little to no glue on the car.

Nice work and I hope you get more.

Take Care,

Robert

These decals had 2 layers it seemed. There was a cheap vinyl under a clear more durable clear layer. I found when I heated it up the clear separated from the the cheap vinyl and caused me more headaches. I didn't have to heat anything at all. The sun helped heat it just enough to make removal easy and with limited adhesive left.

Sounds like you lucked out, I've dealt with some pretty stuck on decals before. I love my 3m decal remover wheel for those tough projects. Also interesting how there was no iron behind the stickers. Anyway, great work, they came out very well.

Nice job, looks like you got all the ghosting.

Did a similar job for a local TV station when they changed their logo. 2 vans and a camera truck. Vans were pretty easy, the truck much less so since it was a gel coat. Had to use gel coat specific polishes to get rid of the ghosting.
