Should I Use Z6 if I Am Using a Carnauba Topper?

Rob Tomlin

I will be trying a Carnauba topper on 4 coats of Zaino Z2. I've been using the Z6 quite a bit between coats and as a QD, I love the stuff!

But once I have a Carnauba topper, should I continue to use the Z6 or should I find a different QD with Carnauba in it?

Will the Z6 negatively affect the Carnauba? Will there be bonding type issues or smearing?

If I need a different QD, please recommend one since I would like to place that in my order along with the Carnauba wax (probably Trade Secret).

Thanks!

Im in the same boat as you are.... I have 3 coats of Z5 on my car and topped it off about two weeks agowith P21S...i have the same question about using the zaino wash and QD while i have my P21S on the car. For now, until i find a good answer, i have been washing with NXT tech wash and qd'ing with Eagle One WIpe and shine (Great stuff by the way). In my opinon i dont think that the Zaino wash or the Z6 Qd will have any negative effects on the carnuaba topper.....but i could be wrong.

What are the reasons your using a QD ? .. I have Zaino topped with #16 and never have the need for one nor do I use them on black cars unless right after I wash .. too much marring.

I usually only QD after a wash to have that just waxed finish, also helps rejuvenate the wax or sealant to where it will last a taaad bit longer.

Hi Rob. I also almost always QD after a wash to give a fresh, just waxed look.

I think you can use Z6 on the carnauba without ill effects. However, when I started topping Zaino with carnauba, I switched to Meguiar's Last Detail QD. I find it really gives a gorgeous gloss. And it smells great too. The flies really love the car. :(

Also, since you are using carnauba, you might splurge and try 1Z Perls shampoo for your car wash soap. I love the stuff, it leaves a really glossy shine. And when I use it, I rarely QD after a wash because it just doesn't need it.

Thanks loco. Very nice car, btw! ;)

Actually, I already have Perls shampoo. I only started using it a couple of weeks ago and was extremely impressed. It will be my car wash of choice from now on.

I went ahead and placed an order today which included Pinnacle's Crystal Mist which has Carnauba in it. I am going to be trying Trade Secret for the carnauba topper. I figure this will help keep the carnauba in good condition.

Unfortunately I have 2 full bottles of Z6. But I will just use them on the other 2 vehicles that will only have Zaino on them.

Thanks, you too Rob. Good to see you over here from the RX-8 Club!

D'oh. I misspoke in my last post. I mean to say Meguiar's Last TOUCH QD, not Last Detail. Duh.

I'm happy to hear you're already using Perls. It is some really great stuff!

I have lots of Z6, too. And I still use it between Zaino layers, so it'll get used up eventually. Z6 is really good on windows, if you don't feel that that's a waste of the product. It makes for a nice RainX effect (rain just beads and runs off the windshield) but is MUCH easier to apply than RainX. I just spray it on the windows after a wash/dry and wipe off. No smearing at all!

Yes, I will keep using Z6 in between coats of Zaino prior to the carnauba topper as well. In fact, I have decided to put one more layer of Zaino on my car before the carnauba, which won't be here until next week anyway.

Looks like you are getting some great results so far based on the pics in your gallery!

WOW! I never thought of that, I think I might try that next wash.

How long does the Z6 last on the glass?

Intercooled - Z6 on glass lasts for a week or two. I typically wash the car once a week, so it never really fades away for me.

Certainly, it doesn't last as long as RainX, but I have always had such a hard time applying RainX properly - it's hard to rub it all in, and it smears for me. Z6 is just so easy that I don't mind doing it after each wash. Clearkote QuikShine will work too.

And thanks for the compliment Rob!

Sorry for the threadack, loco, but here's a tip on Rain-X that has made it a lot easier for me. The residue comes off easily with water, so I'll do one of two things. While my car is still wet from washing, I'll dry just the windows, then apply my Rain-X. Once the Rain-X is hazed and the alcohol component has evaporated, I simply hose my windows off and the residue rinses off completely (I use the "Flat" spray setting on my hose attachment). Then I just dry the car as usual. Alternatively, if the car is already dried off, I'll apply the Rain-X to the windows, let it dry, then I'll have two thick paper towels, one in each hand, one folded and wet, the other dry. I use the wet towel to remove the Rain-X residue and immediately follow with the dry towel to wipe up any water. Voila!

Keep in mind that applying the Rain-X correctly is important, too. The chemical has to be spread thinly, with no discernible droplets (which will smear and be difficult to remove). If you have droplets of chemical, you need to wipe it to thin/spread it out while it is still wet. If not, re-wet it with more chemical.

:)

Thanks for the tip, 92MX83. The directions with RainX don't say anything about using water, so I've never tried that method. I always spread it thinly, but still had trouble getting it all off without smearing it. It's good to know there's an "easier" way.

Unfortunately for me, after I discovered how easy it was to use Z6 for the same purpose, I threw my RainX out! D'oh! Oh well.
